September Chapter Meeting on Eldercare Justice
Register today for the September 18 chapter meeting and optional pro bono workshop
As financial planning professionals, we want to help our clients reach their financial goals. But how can we protect older adults – who may suffer from memory loss or dementia – from the risk of financial exploitation? During this month’s joint meeting with the Minnesota Planned Giving Council, September 18 from 7:30-10 a.m., we will dive into these important topics.

Hour 1: Family Secrets and Stranger Scams: Preventing and Responding to Financial Exploitation
In the first hour, we’ll hear from Marit Peterson of Minnesota Elder Justice about financial exploitation statistics and stories, and important resources to fight against fraud and theft.

Hour 2: Stewarding Donors with Dementia
In the second hour, Jolene Hyppa-Martin and Robert Hofmann of the University of Minnesota Duluth will discuss the warning signs of dementia and provide tips on how to communicate with clients who have dementia.

Optional session: Pro Bono Bootcamp
Following the chapter meeting, we will host an optional, interactive workshop. Through guided small group discussions, attendees will learn background information and helpful tips when engaging in pro bono financial planning.

This training is required for first-time Financial Planning Day volunteers.

2018 Golf & Bocce Outing was a big success
Thanks to everyone who participated in our 2018 Golf & Bocce Outing last month!

More than 125 attendees joined us for the event this year to raise money for a g ood cause: Gillette Children's Specialty Heathcare , which treats nearly 25,000 children annually who have complex conditions, rare disorders, and traumatic injuries.

At the event, a Gillette patient named Brandon and his father joined us to share his story. After being transferred to several different hospitals due to a severe condition, Brandon says he finally found his home away from home at Gillette, helping him live his best life possible.

Share your expertise: Volunteer at Financial Planning Day
The 9th annual Twin Cities Financial Planning Day is coming up on Saturday, October 27, at the Wilder Center in Saint Paul.

This free event gives members of the public the opportunity to meet one-on-one with financial planning professionals to discuss their finances, as well as attend presentations on important financial topics.

If you’re a FPA of MN member who has never attended this event, we strongly encourage you to do so. This is our signature public event, and it is inspiring to see our members volunteer their time on a Saturday to share their expertise with the community.

Please email volunteers@fpamn.org to learn how you can help.
