Dear Kindred in Christ,

Now that we've entered the season of Pentecost, I encourage you to be particularly mindful of how God's Holy Spirit is at work in your life. Sometimes when I speak to children about the Holy Spirit, I compare it to the wind. The Greek and Hebrew words that our English Bibles translate as "Spirit" actually have roots that mean "breath" or "wind". Neither is something that we can see directly, but we can feel them, and we can see their effects on other things and people around us. Sometimes it's helpful to think about the Holy Spirit this way. Though we might not see it, we can see how it moves others, and at times we can feel it. 

We also continue to see God's Holy Spirit at work throughout our common life together. At FPC we have now ramped up for a summer of youth trips, special events for children, and even service projects as we love and serve our community. This Sunday, we will commission our mission team for the upcoming Guatemala mission trip at both services - one of many commissionings in the coming weeks! We have many opportunities to proclaim the Spirit's presence whenever we gather for worship, study scripture, engage in prayer, or simply share food and fellowship together. God's Spirit is everywhere!

Finally, speaking of the Holy Spirit, this Sunday is Trinity Sunday. It's the Sunday on which we celebrate the revelation of God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Our scripture readings will be Genesis 1:1-2:4a and Matthew 28:16-20. If you're reading ahead, ask yourself why these particular passages have been chosen for Trinity Sunday. What do they say about God? What do they say about Jesus? What do they say about the Holy Spirit? Could you formulate a doctrine of the Trinity based on these passages alone?

FPC’s next rotation at the food pantry is June 1 to 12, 2026

We will serve clients on the following days from noon to 1:30pm:

Week 1:

·        Tuesday, June 2

·        Thursday, June 4

Week 2:

·        Tuesday, June 9

·        Thursday, June 11

We will need 3-4 volunteers on each of the above days: (1) one to greet clients, (2) one or two to enter clients’ information into the computer, and (3) one to load the grocery carts with the bags of food.

On Tuesdays, June 2 and 9, we will pack grocery bags with food at the food pantry from 9:00-11:00am. We will need 5-6 volunteers each day to help with packing.

FPC also provides butter, cheese, and bread to the clients. One volunteer is needed to pick up the butter and cheese on Monday or Tuesday morning (June 1 or 2) and deliver them to the food pantry. Another volunteer is needed to pick up the bread at Publix on Saturday mornings, May 30 and June 6, and deliver the bread to the food pantry.

May Update on the World Mission Conference

Having to cancel our 27^th annual get together with our long-supported world missionaries last January was a great disappointment. And WMC pledges received for 2026 are down substantially from last year.

The good news is that our generous congregation is responding faithfully. Our missionaries received their expected allocations of WMC support in March and May with a good start on funds received for our next scheduled allocation in July. Two-thirds of our $115,000 goal were received by the end of April, but full goal attainment in 2026 continues to appear uncertain.

Anything our mission-minded church family can do to help us close a potential funding gap for missionary support this year will be greatly appreciated. Let’s also continue to keep our missionaries in our prayers during these challenging times everywhere in the world. Sincere thanks from FPC’s Missions Committee.

Center Point was established in 1967 by First Presbyterian and 3 other local churches to provide release-time education classes to public school students. It was created with the purpose of providing off-site religion classes to public school students but has slowly transformed into a successful and diverse student-and-family-centered non-profit with services that include counseling, life skills education, and mentoring.
