What's New:
PDA Trip from Foothills
    On Saturday, November 5 th , you are  invited to join Fourth Presbyterian Church & St. Giles Presbyterian Church as we travel to Columbia, SC to work through Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) with the St. Bernard's Project in helping to rebuild a home destroyed by the floods of Oct. 2015.
 
We will meet around 6:45 am at Fourth Presbyterian Church and will return home after 6:00 pm.
 
What to bring? You will need to bring a sack lunch and a water  bottle (to refill on site), as well as money for dinner on the  road.
 
What to wear? The recommend closed toe shoes (work boots  are ideal) and comfy clothes (long sleeves if working with  insulation).
 
We won't know what our specific job will be until a week or
two beforehand.  

This trip is limited to 15 people.  There are
ONLY 13 slots remaining!  This will be first come, first served.  
Thursday, Oct. 20th is the deadline for signing up.

Taste of Chiapas at First Greer!
Please join us for our Mission & Ministry Highlight Event following the November Presbytery meeting -
Frontera de Cristo and Cafe Justo put on "Taste of Chiapas" events for churches to help educate and promote the coffee ministry.  It is our hope that offering a Taste of Chiapas during lunch on November 1, following the Stated Meeting of Foothills Presbytery, will inspire other congregations to become involved.
 
JOIN us for a special lunch and sample some delicious Café Justo coffee.
HEAR the story of Café Justo, a message of hope and peace and justice.
FIND out how Café Justo is making an impact on local congregations.
DISCOVER how your congregation might become involved with Café Justo.
MEET those that are feeling the positive impact of this coffee co-operative that works in partnership with Frontera de Cristo, a PCUSA border ministry.
PURCHASE fair trade, organic, family grown Café Justo.

We also welcome folks to join us for lunch who may not be attending the Presbytery meeting.

First Greer 175 Anniversary Celebration

Short Term Mission Volunteer

Presbyterian  Church Witness in Colombia, South America
 
On behalf of the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship, Presbyterian Church (USA), Jean Fontaine of Greenville spent the month of June accompanying human rights workers and displaced persons in Colombia, South America.  She will be happy to come to church groups and/or worship services to share word of our faithful, courageous sisters and brothers in Christ in a country long torn by internal violence.  She is available all weekdays, except Wednesday morning, and once a month on Sundays.

GA Proposed Amendments 
Please use the following link to read the Proposed Amendments to the Constitution that were approved by the 222nd General Assembly this past summer:

The Unity & Community Team is meeting to study these amendments and will make recommendations at the winter Foothills Presbytery Stated Meeting, February 21, 2017.

Please remember that the General Assembly no longer ships copies of Amendment Books like they did in the past.  This electronic link is for members to read and or print on their own. 
2017 APCE Registration Open!
2017 APCE Annual Event 
(Association of Presbyterian Church Educators) .  

Registration is now available online at www.apcenet.org and we encourage you to do it now before the December 2 early bird registration deadline .   There will be 9 PYWA (Presbyterian Youth Workers Association) workshops for all who serve in youth ministry as an area of focus. 
 
You can apply for several Scholarships including Regional, Small Church, Retired Educator, etc. at http://www.apcenet.org/scholarships

Additionally, some of you may qualify for the Martha May Holman Scholarship from the SOAP (South Atlantic & Puerto Rico) Region.  Click here for the application form   Deadline is October 30.  

Finally, c lick here for the Foothills APCE Scholarship .   The d eadline is Nov 14.

Alzheimers Program at EPC
Hosts an Educational Opportunity:
Alzheimer's and You
  
We will learn about the physiological reasons that people behave the way they do when they experience dementia.    We will take that knowledge and learn how to communicate and interact with people with dementia.  We will discuss the stages of the disease and lastly talk about caregiving and how we have to love ourselves as well as those we are caring for.

Sessions are:
