Presbyterian Women of Foothills! |
|
Presbyterian Women is revitalizing!
Although PW has not been active as a group for the past several years it has not completely disappeared, And now we are regrouping and moving forward.
So...
Step one is to create a newsletter to let you know what has been going on and what will be going on and what you in the churches have been, are and will be doing. Your input is needed for this so send info to me!
Step 2 is our own Facebook page at facebook/Foothills PW. There will be pictures and announcements on this page. Please visit and "like", and share!
Step 3 is to have a Presbytery Gathering here in Foothills. This will be in March, April or May. I need a church to volunteer to host us - it would be great to have someone on the South/West side of Greenville, which is more in the center of the Presbytery. I would also like some help in planning this event. (see my contact info at the end of this newsletter.). All women in the Presbytery are invited to attend to share concerns, stories, things that work, hopes and dreams. And hopefully we'll get some new leadership for Foothills PW!
If you have any questions/ comments/ etc. please contact me, your acting Moderator/Treasurer:

Lay School of Theology |
|
Register now for
the 2016 Lay School of Theology
The Lay School is an educational opportunity offered jointly by the five South Carolina presbyteries on two weekends a year, in spring and fall, held on the campus of Presbyterian College in Clinton.
The class instructors are highly qualified pastors and teachers of the PCUSA. Overnight accommodations are provided at a discount at local hotels.
The Lay Enrichment track is available for anyone who wants to delve more deeply onto the Presbyterian/Reformed faith. The CRE track is for ruling elders who desire further training toward special service to the church as Commissioned Ruling Elders (lay pastors). Course material is the same for both. In the spring classes offered are Worship and Sacraments, Old Testament Survey, Church History, and Church Polity. Fall classes are New Testament Survey, Reformed Theology, Pastoral Care, and Preaching. Electives are also available in both spring and fall. An information and registration packet is sent out electronically ahead of each Lay School session and will be available by a link from the Foothills Presbytery newsletter.
The next session of the Lay School
will be April 15-17, 2016.

Outlook special GA subscription |
|
As you know, the 222nd General Assembly meeting in Portland, Oregon, this summer is going to be an important one for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
Commissioners and delegates to GA will be tackling difficult and complicated issues. The Outlook is gearing up to help you understand everything coming to Portland - whether you are a delegate or commissioner yourself, involved in orienting and training your presbytery's commissioners to carry out their duties effectively, or following the assembly and interpreting the actions taken.
Last week at the Associated Presbyterian Church Educators conference, moderator of the 221st General Assembly said he anticipates "two hot button issues
" in Portland: divestment from fossil fuels
and the work of "the way forward" committee (which will include overtures on denominational structure from Foothills Presbytery
and the possibility of a merger between the Presbyterian Mission Agency and the Office of the General Assembly). In addition, commissioners will be voting on a new moderator (or co-moderators), social policy, engagement with climate change and many other matters.....
