Data continue to show the importance of vaccination and booster doses to protect individuals both from infection and severe outcomes of COVID-19. During the recent Omicron surge, those who were boosted were 21-times less likely to die from COVID-19 and 7-times less likely to be hospitalized, as compared to those who were unvaccinated.
Following recent reviews by the FDA and CDC, people over the age of 50 who received an initial booster dose at least 4 months ago are now authorized to receive another mRNA (Pfizer/BioNTech or Moderna) booster to increase their protection against severe disease from COVID-19. Immunocompromised individuals also remain eligible to receive another vaccine booster.
As regulatory issues currently hinder private medical practices from readily providing COVID-19 vaccines, Foxhall Internists encourages its eligible patients to visit vaccine.gov or call 800-232-0233 to find pharmacies and other locations that offer COVID-19 vaccines.
