A Note from Chris in the Franklin Gym
Please remember gym shoes!
Unfortunately, we are still seeing a lot of kids coming to Physical Education without the proper shoes on. I am seeing lots of sandals and keens. I'm guessing next week I'll start to see boots as the weather turns cooler! We do a lot of running, skipping, galloping, changing directions, stopping etc. in the gym. Gym shoes really help our students to do the best job they can. Please try to keep a pair of gym shoes at school or remember to pack them in their backpack.
On a related note, if your child outgrows their current gym shoes, we'd be happy to recycle gently used shoes into our "extras" rack... shoes we use for kids who forget theirs. Please send them to Franklin in a bag and drop them off in the gym. We are especially in need of some 13 - 2 sizes. We don't need anything larger than 2.
We finished going over the Physical Education rules, expectations for a Fire Drill and bathroom/water/gym shoes expectations. We have continued to work on basic manipulative skills in the gym, such as bouncing various balls with one or both hands; standing still and walking in different directions. We transitioned to catching skills; last week we did throw and catch to self and this week with a partner. The emphasis has been on watching the ball, getting your hands ready and squeezing it tight. We have caught different types of balls/equipment. This week we have worked on the over-hand throw.
