2017–2018 PTO Grants
This year with the help of our fall fundraiser the Franklin-Randall PTO Grant committee awarded 10 grants (5 at Franklin and 5 at Randall) for a total of $6,530. Over the next few weeks we will highlight the grants and how they are impacting your child's classroom. As always, thank you for all of your support during our Fall Fundraiser and throughout the year!
Grant Spotlight:
Library Funding to Replace Scholastic Book Fair Profits

This grant funded Book Bowl titles both new and replacements and book bowl ribbons. The grant also allowed us to purchase the LinkExpress Service from MPL. Instead of a book fair this year the Randall Library held a Book Share that was a big success and all students left with great books to read.

National Staff Appreciation Week! May 7–11
Next week is officially National Staff Appreciation Week with  Monday  (May 7) being  Staff Appreciation Day ! The Franklin/Randall PTO has a few treats in store for our awesome staff.

Franklin Flash Dash

What is the Franklin Flash Dash?

  • A K–2 event on Friday, May 11th, 2018 in which students and staff participate. (Rain date: Friday, May 18th, 2018)

Second Grade: 8–8:50
First Grade: 9–9:50
Kindergarten: 10–10:50

  • A new approach to fundraising where students are encouraged to get pledges and run laps to raise money. 

What are the goals of the Franklin Flash Dash?
  • To fund Franklin’s Unified Arts program (Music, Art, PE, Library/Reach) which touch all students at Franklin. 
  • To include the Franklin community in a fun and healthy activity.

What do students do for the Franklin Flash Dash?
  • Use the online pledge system and/or the pledge envelope to collect sponsors.
  • Run/walk a looped track on the school blacktop.

What do parents/guardians do for the Franklin Flash Dash?
  • Help your student get sponsors before the Franklin Flash Dash and collect pledges after the race.
  • If possible, volunteer the day of the Franklin Flash Dash.

What about pledges?
  • Sponsors can pledge an amount per lap or a set amount.
  • Franklin is a 501(3)c organization and donations are tax-deductible.

Spring Regent Resale
** VOLUNTEERS NEEDED **
Donate, Volunteer, & Shop to Support Our Schools

Saturday, May 12th 8 a.m.–1 p.m.
West High School Cafeteria
 
Regent Neighborhood Association, West High, and Franklin/Randall Elementary Schools will host the Regent Resale on May 12th in support of our school community. All proceeds benefit West High and Franklin/Randall students, teachers, and classrooms.

What makes a great sale? Great donations! Please set aside gently-used, clean, working items that no longer serve a need in your household as donations for the Spring Regent Resale. Best sellers include; winter coats, clothing for all ages, sports equipment, bikes, books and board games, video games and systems, toys, stereo equipment, newer CDs and DVDs, collectible knickknacks, cooking equipment, tableware, and furniture.

Please drop off contributions at West High School. Signs will guide you from Regent Street and Van Hise Avenue. Drop-off continues between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday–Saturday, now through Friday, May 11th.

Save the Lakes! (Except this one.)
Have you visited Lake Franklin? Franklin’s “lake” is created due to poor grading and flooding on the blacktop. While lovely, it’s not ideal when the kids can’t use that space and when it freezes over — yikes!!! We are looking for someone (or ones) that would like to help and lead our fundraising efforts dedicated to this multi-year project. We have a great plan and team in place to execute — we just need to raise the money! We know there are many skilled and creative people in our community that can help. Franklin/Randall Parent Workshop Series:
Developing Minds to Think Creatively
TOPIC: Questioning Techniques
GOAL : This workshop series was created to help parents analyze and develop formal and informal learning experiences to increase the opportunities for creative thinking in their children. Research has shown that creative thinking improves cognitive function, emotional health, social connection, and sense of belonging to a community.
