2017–2018 PTO Grants
This year with the help of our fall fundraiser the Franklin-Randall PTO Grant committee awarded 10 grants (5 at Franklin and 5 at Randall) for a total of $6,530. Over the next few weeks we will highlight the grants and how they are impacting your child's classroom. As always, thank you for all of your support during our Fall Fundraiser and throughout the year!
Grant Spotlight:
Chazen Art Museum Field Trip
by Sarah Hemmerich , Randall Art Teacher

This grant funded the Randall 5 th  grade Chazen Art Museum Field Trip to view the Australian Aboriginal exhibit. Students made their own dot drawings and were in awe on the art work they saw at the Chazen. The students asked very engaging questions to the docents. It was a great trip!

We are so excited for the upcoming  "Community Days" celebration with Roman Candle Pizza on Monroe Street (2623 Monroe St): May 22nd and 23rd!

Please note: Tuesday, May 22nd will be geared towards Franklin families -- between 5 - 7pm, expect to be served a pizza or cocktail from "celebrity" server Principal Zarov. Wednesday, May 23rd will be focused on Randall families with Principal Wallace tossing dough and enjoying a slice with his fellow Raccoons!

We invite all Franklin-Randall families, friends and neighbors to enjoy dine in, take out, delivery (consider lunch catering at your place of business or purchasing a gift card!) on these days. Roman Candle will generously donate a % of sales back to the PTO to continue to support the important needs of our teachers, programs and schools.

See you there!
Latino PEG Report - April 2018
Wow! Sooo many children and family members! Only two families were not in attendance. Kids couldn't wait for the Children’s Day party to begin!

We gathered in the LMC and enjoyed a social time with pizza and salad. Then Ellen coordinated a presentation with Police officers Amanda Analla and Steven Chvala, who returned this time to talk with the children about safety, as requested by parents at the beginning of the school year. Children listened respectfully to the safety tips and had many questions and comments.

Afterwards children went outside to enjoy the gorgeous weather while parents stayed in the LMC listening to several school announcements:
Franklin Flash Dash - Explanation of event and procedures. Information handed out
Playtime Productions, Children’s Theater - Flier handed out and parents encouraged to take their children
Spring Regent Resale - Parents encouraged to participate: donating, volunteering, and/or shopping.
Conferencia Latina de Salud Mental - Information handed out on the Latin Conference of Mental Health. Parents encouraged to attend
Summer School - Registration confirmation sheets distributed
Dia de los Niños at Goodman Center - Flier handed out and parents invited to attend this free event

At the end parents were assisted in filling out scholarship application for Goodman Pool Summer Pass.

Our traditional Dia de los Niños celebration followed the meeting. Families gathered in the gym to play La Loteria while enjoying some cake and ice cream. I never get tired of seeing how thrilled the children get every time we have this party! Their excitement and jubilation is wonderful!

Randall Yearbooks: Attention 5th Grade Parents
Does your 5th grader still need a yearbook? Randall was able to order a few extra. There is a very limited supply. Yearbooks are for sale for $10 in office and 5th grade will have all next week (May 14 - 18) to buy what's available. If there are any left after next week, we will open up yearbook sales to the entire school.
Gym Shoes Reminder
Gym shoe
As the weather gets warmer, families are reminded to make sure that students have TENNIS SHOES on the days they have Physical Education. The temperature is getting warmer and we are already seeing lots of sandals/keens/flip-flops/ fashion shoes etc.

We do a lot of travelling, turning, changing directions in PE. It is essential and safer for kids to have the right shoes  on.
Thank you for your help.
