Winter Carnival is tomorrow (Feb 17)!

The Carnival   relies on volunteers   to make it a success. We still have many openings for volunteers, especially later in the afternoon. All we need is an hour of your time. Please take a look and see if you can help and sign up here .

Send your Box Tops by Feb 23 Please gather your Box Tops and send them to school no later than Friday, February 23. This is our last chance to earn money for the 2017-2018 school year. Thank you!

From the Equity & Inclusion Committee International Festival (FREE!) will be held Saturday, February 24 from 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM at the Overture Center on 201 State Street. Celebrate the rich cultural heritage within our community at this family friendly event and enjoy more than 30 FREE performances throughout Overture by artists who call Dane County home. Indulge in cuisines from around the world, browse stunning arts and crafts available for purchase and learn about the many local businesses with global connections. Wonder Workshop We will be beginning our first collaborative art project in our Wonder Workshop! We would like to make signs similar to those in the images below to hang outside our door! If you have any small colorful objects you would be willing to donate, please send them to school with your child to give to Ms. Shelley (LMC) or Ms. Marissa (ART). Examples would be: old game pieces, caps of milk jugs or soda bottles, buttons or any other random objects! Thank you for your help!

Come Explore & Invent at Super Science Saturday on March 10

Mark your calendars for Super Science Saturday, March 10, 9:00 am -12:00 pm at Randall! Experience the Physics of Roller Derby with the Mad Rollin' Dolls!  Launch a rocket with the West High Rocket Club. Invent the Slide Whistle and the Self-inflating Handy Hat (pictured)! Experiment at Exploration Stations in Chemistry, Physics, Biotech and Engineering. Plus, if you or your child would like to share your science at a hands-on Exploration Station, please contact Tom Zinnen at   zinnen@biotech.wisc.edu   or 608-265-2420.

Wellness Council Update

The Franklin-Randall Wellness Council met February 5 from 6:00 -7:00 pm at the Bayview Foundation Center. We took a quick look at what’s been done nationally, in Dane County and at district levels regarding Wellness. We then reviewed what’s been accomplished at Franklin and Randall by the PTO’s Health Committee, and what’s currently in place.    Using the “Alliance for a Healthier Generation” (a national organization with proven effective wellness suggestions for schools) as a guide, we discussed what goals to focus on for the rest of this school year at Franklin and Randall. We also discussed ways to use Healthy Kids Dane award money and the PTO Wellness Council budget to promote wellness at Franklin and Randall.   If you’d like any details or want to help, please let Nurse Lovell know.

VOLUNTEERS needed for the upcoming 5-2-1-0 Challenge   Please consider helping! It’s not too time consuming and helps a LOT. More info about the 5-2-1-0 Challenge will be in upcoming newsletters. Input points earned by students & staff into Excel spreadsheet (Google doc) after each week of Challenge. **The more volunteers we have for this, the better.** Prepare and deliver fruit kabob snacks to 1-2 winning classes at Franklin & Randall. Could be reimbursed by Wellness Council. Put up a bulletin board (everything’s ready to go) at Franklin & Randall Count handouts needed for each class before the Challenge.     If you’re interested in helping, please let me, Nurse Lovell know what you’d like to do and I’ll give you more information.
