Once each year we invite all teachers, parents, staff and students to submit ideas for projects that could make a difference to our school community.

Read more about the  program and past f unded projects on our website. Please E-mail Sarah Sullivan at sasullivan2@wisc.edu if you are interested in serving on the grants committee.

Popcorn Poppers are needed at Randall
Image of a frog holding popcorn and a lemonade.
Popcorn is offered to all Randall students approximately twice a month. Volunteers are needed on Friday and a few Thursday mornings to help pop and bag popcorn (commitment is approximately 7:45am-10:45am). Please consider volunteering a few times this school year to help continue this fun Randall tradition.

Please contact Darcy Lee at  darcylee1805@gmail.com , if you are interested in volunteering or if you would like more information. Thank you!
A note from Chris in the Franklin Gym
Gym shoe
Parents and students are reminded that tennis/gym shoes are needed for Physical Education class. All kids have PE three times each week. Their classroom teacher has probably sent those days home in a newsletter or your student may already remember which days they have PE. We do a lot of running, stopping quickly, changing directions, jumping etc. so the right shoes will really help your student to be more successful. With this last gasp of warm summer days, please try to help your child have the best shoes on for PE.

We have continued our work with ball manipulation skills this week. Looking at the over-hand throw. Our cues were:
  • Stand sideways to your target in the letter 'T'.
  • Put the ball up by your ear.
  • Point at your target.
  • Lift up the foot closest to the target... step forward... and throw hard and fast!
Practice again and again and again and again...

When is your child "well enough to go to school?"
It is not always easy to decide if your child is sick enough to stay home or well enough to be in school. Children who come to school are expected, with few exceptions, to participate fully in school activities.

Here are some guidelines that might help in a parent/guardian’s decision-making:

1. Fever : A fever of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or more signals an illness that is probably going to make a student uncomfortable and unable to function well in class.  If your child has a fever and you give them medicine, their temperature will go down but it’s temporary - - your child is sick and should stay home. Your child may return to school when their temperature is normal (under 100 degrees Fahrenheit) without any medicine for fever for at least 24 hours (a full day) and feeling well enough to return to school.

2. Vomiting, Diarrhea or Severe Nausea : These are symptoms that require a student to remain at home until a normal diet is tolerated the night before and the morning of school.

3. Infectious Diseases : Diseases such as impetigo, pink eye with thick drainage, and strep throat require a health care provider’s examination and prescription for medication. Contacting the health care provider and using the medicine as directed for the full recommended length of time are necessary. Once medication has been started at home and the child is feeling well, he/she may return to school.

Students with chicken pox may return to school when all the scabs are completely dried and no new lesions are developing (usually 5-7 days).

4. Rashes : Rashes or patches of broken, itchy skin needs to be examined by a health care provider if they appear to be spreading or not improving.

5. Injuries : If a student has an injury that causes continuous discomfort, the student should not attend school until the condition is checked by a health care provider or it improves. Injuries that interfere with class participation need a medical evaluation. If participation in physical education classes is not recommended, a medical excuse is required.

Franklin-Randall Directory
The Franklin-Randall Directory is a wonderful tool in building our community. The Directory helps parents connect for playdates, birthday parties, class activities, and more. But it is only as strong as its content.

The F-R Directory is comprised of information released by MMSD based on permissions granted during online enrollment. If you are unsure if you opted-in to the Franklin-Randall directory, fear not. You can go back into your enrollment file and make updates. Just go to  mmsd.org/enroll . Click on Disclosures and Permissions to find the opt-in options.  Please be sure to do so by the end of this month.

The School Use and Release of Student Names section asks for your general permission to release student  directory data (name, age, class, contact information) in accordance to School Board policies. You may opt in, opt out, or specify which specific information you would be comfortable sharing.

The Lists of Students and Contact Information in a Class or School Address Book/ Directory gives you an opportunity to  opt-into the Franklin-Randall  directory while still opting out of the general release above.

Please note: No electronic copies of the directory are distributed , and copies are delivered only to Franklin-Randall families. If you have questions regarding the Franklin-Randall directory, please feel free to email Sara Rostolder Mandell .
