#GC79 news from the Dioceses of Eastern and Western Michigan.
July 10, 2018´╗┐

Today's updates include continuation in the Prayer Book revision debate and a call for equity in lay pensions.

Beyond the legislative, last night the deputations and bishops participated in daily Eucharist, a service with the Rt. Rev. Rafael Morales Maldonado, Bishop of Puerto Rico, presiding and the Rt. Rev. Prince Singh, Bishop of Rochester preaching. Click here to watch the service including Bishop Singh's (often pun-filled) sermon.

Bishops Amend Resolution on Prayer Book Revision

Deputies call for Pension Equity for Lay employees
HOD approves resolution D045
Considering it a justice issue, the House of Deputies has voted to approve resolution D045, "urging" the church to take steps to create equity in pensions for all employees - both lay and ordained. The resolution also calls for study to recommend the steps necessary to create equity in projected financial benefits according to the employees pension, or comparable non-church benefit.

The current mandated pension contribution is 18% clergy employees and 9% for lay employees.

The House of Bishops has yet to act on the proposed resolution.

Prayer for the General Convention
Almighty and everlasting Father, you have given the Holy Spirit to abide with us for ever: Bless, we pray, with his grace and presence, the bishops and other clergy and the laity assembled in your Name, that your Church, being preserved in true faith and godly discipline, may fulfill all the mind of him who loved it and gave himself for it, your Son Jesus Christ our Savior; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.  Amen.
