We are excited to spotlight two of our GO Getters: David and Isla! As 2026 GO Summer interns, they supported instruction under a teacher's guidance in our K-7 classrooms at our Grace Church School program site. In addition to working directly in our program, GO Getters researched and presented a capstone project centered around educational equity.
David and Isla chose to focus their research on English language learners/multi-language learners and how they fall behind academically compared to other students. “School is already difficult for a lot of students, and imagine you’re not even understanding what the teacher is saying, so you’re not even getting the same thing that other students are getting. It’s such a drastic effect that it has on these kids that I think a lot of people don’t know,” shared David, who was especially interested in the topic due to being the son of immigrant parents from Turkey. He felt moved by his father's own difficult experience understanding English when he moved to the U.S. as a student.
In addition to working on their in-depth capstone project, David and Isla loved working with GO students all summer. As GO Getters they supported in-classroom learning and saw the impact of GO’s work first-hand. They worked with students from different backgrounds and academic levels: “An impactful part of the internship was getting to learn how to work with different types of learners like students with IEPs or different learning disabilities, and trying to change your approach depending on their individual plan. Figuring out how to approach different students with different tasks was something that I thought was really cool to learn,” shared Isla.
GO is grateful for the work of GO Getter interns like David and Isla this summer! Because of our educators, teacher assistants, and interns, our GO students received critical academic and social-emotional support.
