Message from Principal Langer
Happy February parents!  Wow, have we had some strange weather these past couple of weeks. As of yet, we do not need to make up time, only MGHS.  If we have more missed days due to weather, we will have to look at more student days as well here at GDS.

I would like to talk a bit this month about MG21.  There are a lot of myths and rumors about MG21 Middle Campus.  I have worked with MG21 for the past 4 years and I am still working with them on the expansion grant.  MG21 is a school for middle school students who excel at working on projects, who like to seek greater understanding in areas in which they are extremely interested in or passionate about.  Students at MG21 will work in small groups, large groups and individually at times, have interest based classes, eat lunch family style, and learn the skills needed for a future of their choice.  Students who attend MG21 will be able to attend MG21 for their high school years, or they may choose to go to MGHS. MG21 works closely with families. Priority application for MG21 is February 15, 2019.  If you would like more information please check out MG21 website , call MG21 or call me!

GDS was bummed to have to postpone our talent show, but the students will be equally excited come March 14th! We hope you can make the show that evening at 7:00 PM.

It is time for us to start working on the 2019-2020 school year!
Stay tuned for more information.

Enjoy February!

Parent-Teacher Conferences
Mark your calendars for GDS Parent Teacher conferences on Thursday, February 21 & 28.

This is an opportunity to check in with teachers regarding student progress since the fall conference and to make sure student goals and plans are moving in a positive direction for the second half of the school year.

Having lunch with your student?
Parents are always welcome to come and have lunch with their child. Upon arrival you will be asked to check into our Raptor Security system in the main office using your driver's license. The office will then locate your child and have him/her come to the office where you and your child will be shown into one of the rooms in the office where you can have a quiet, peaceful lunch together.

Spring Fling Dance
Student Council is hosting the Spring Fling Dance Fri. March 1st from 6:30-8:30 pm.

DJ Rohrer + DJ Kleppe will be blowing the roof off of this place so it's bound to be a super fun experience for everyone. There will be a concessions stand, a few games in the gym, and a massive dance party in the Commons. $1 admission fee.

Outstanding Young Person Awards
Glacial Drumlin School students received their Outstanding Young Person awards at the MLK Youth Recognition Breakfast on Sunday, January 27.

These students were nominated by their teachers and administrators. These awards are given to students who are outstanding young people in their schools. Their work helps to shape the communities in and around them just as Martin Luther King had done.

Winter Weather Gear
A reminder that during the cold weather season the following guidelines are used to determine whether recess is inside or outside.  These guidelines also apply to the morning before the doors open at 7:30 am.
  • Accessibility to recreational areas
  • Temperature (including wind chill)
+11° F and above = Outside Recess
+10° F to -10° F = Supervisor's Decision
-11° F and below = Indoor Recess

Students should come to school dressed for the weather. When the temperatures are appropriate, students are expected to go outside.

No Latex Balloons
  • Due to latex allergies among students, staff and visitors of Monona Grove Schools, latex balloons are NOT allowed. Latex Balloons have the biggest health risk for latex allergic people because of the latex particles that become airborne and can lead to respiratory distress if breathed in.
Please do not bring Latex balloons into school buildings and grounds. School health office/first aid supplies include non-latex gloves and band aids/tape. For more information click HERE
