This image shows just one of the new directions I'm pursuing with Modeling Glass: this painting is made on a dry sheet of MG, painted with Rogue Enamels, and fired a single time to make an effect similar to acrylic painting on paper. MG takes any kind of enamel paint beautifully, as it is absorbent like watercolor paper before it is fired. |

You know the feeling that comes from realizing that the comfortable, predictable life you're leading has become too...tight? A couple of weeks ago I hit that point. It has been obvious for a while that I have been saying "no" to opportunities in my artistic life that I couldn't pursue because of my full-time job. Combine that with a serious case of deadline-based burnout, and it was time to make a change. As of the end of 2023, I will be stepping full-time into running my art business and promoting Modeling Glass to the best of my ability.
This new level of commitment is thrilling and terrifying in almost equal measure, though the excitement is starting to gain ground as plans are coming together for this next stage of my career. What does all this mean for Modeling Glass enthusiasts? I'll be teaching more, and there are exciting collaborations afoot for 2024. More details to come as I get them firmed up, but I'll give you a hint: it involves my friend Bob Leatherbarrow and Warm Glass UK! I'm kicking around ideas for a new ebook as well.

I continue to be amazed by the energy of all you glass artists who have continued to enjoy Modeling Glass, who post photos of your work and have lively discussions on the Exploring Modeling Glass Facebook group, and have been supportive of all things MG. I'm looking forward to working with you in classes, answering questions when you contact me (yes, I always reply), and sharing new ways to work with MG. It's your enthusiasm and support that gave me the courage to ditch the day job and be an artist/entrepreneur full time. Thank you!

2024 WORKSHOPS ARE ON!

VEGAS, BABY!
I'm excited to announce that for the very first time, I will be teaching at the 2024 Glass Craft & Bead Expo in Las Vegas, which is happening April 3-7. Still getting the class schedule dialed in, but I plan to offer two half-day workshops featuring Modeling Glass. I will also be doing live demos on the show floor, so please be sure to stop in and say hello at the Milkweed Arts booth.

THE FEATHER VIDEO IS BAAACK!
A few years ago I had the pleasure of working with the great folks at AAE Glass, who produced a video in which I teach all the steps for making the glass powder feathers that I'm known for. The video has been temporarily unavailable, as AAE decided not to host the guest artist video series going forward. If you already purchased the video, it's still available to view through AAE. This will not change!
Fortunately, I have been able to purchase the rights to the video and I've been working with Milkweed Arts AZ to make it available for purchase once again through their online video education series. I'm delighted to be collaborating with Milkweed Arts on this and other projects to come! Look for a big announcement about this around November 12.

Modeling Glass

It is a two-part system made of a powdered binder and liquid medium that, mixed with frit or powders along with a little water, turns the powder into a material that can be sculpted like clay.
