Local History Brought to Life This Summer through RCC RILL Courses
“Virginia in 1619—Celebrating 400 Years” will take place on Wednesday, May 29, June 5, and June 12 from 1 to 3 pm at Historic Christ Church and Museum in Weems.
“Julius Rosenwald: Businessman and Philanthropist” will take place on Tuesday, June 4, June 11, and June 18 on RCC’s Glenn campus from 1 to 3 pm.
 
“Robert Russa Moton: The Life and Legacy of America’s Forgotten Civil Rights Leader” June 19 and 26 from 1 to 3 pm. Walk in Moton’s footsteps, learn about his early years as the son of former slaves, becoming an informal advisor to U.S. presidents, persecution by the KKK, and more.

Movies on Main, Master of Arms :  June 20, 7:00 p.m. Arts on Main  (doors open at 6:30 p.m.) Fresh from his winning appearance on the new Discovery Channel show "Master of Arms", which pits craftsmen against each other in a weapon-forging competition, local Village Blacksmith George Cramer will present his episode followed by an audience discussion.

Parks, Recreation and Tourism Offerings

BEST YEARS TRIP TO CA & J FARM:  Parks, Recreation and Tourism is sponsoring a Best Years Trip to CA & J Farms in Mathews on Wednesday, May 29. CA & Jean are Senior Homesteaders, living a sustaining and simple life. They will share this life with us. Learn about herbs, good health and energy. We will leave at 9:45 am, go to the farm, then lunch, on your own, at Richardson’s before returning at 2:00 pm. The fee for the trip is $20 per person and the deadline to register is May 27.
KARATE:  Parks, Recreation and Tourism sponsors Karate for ages 4 and older. Classes are held on Mondays or Wednesdays at TC Walker Educational Center Gymnasium. Ages 4-6 meet from 6-6:30 pm fee $35, Ages 7-9 meet from 6:30-7:00 pm fee $35, Ages 10-12 meet from 7:00-7:45 pm fee $40, Ages 13 and older meet from 7:45-8:30 pm $40. Classes begin the week of June 3 and end the week of August 12, skipping the week of July 4.
BEST YEARS TRIP TO PIRATES OF PENZANCE: Parks, Recreation and Tourism is sponsoring a Best Years Trip to see Pirates of Penzance at the Riverside Dinner Theater, in Fredericksburg, on Wednesday, June 26. Instead of the original setting on the rocky coast of Cornwall, this version is set on the Rappahannock River in Colonial America! We leave at 9:30 am and return at 6:30 pm, Lunch is included. The fee is $99 and the deadline to register is May 28.
