Gloucester County Receives Grant for Tourism Marketing

Gloucester Parks, Recreation & Tourism has received $10,000 from the Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC) DMO WanderLove Recovery Grant Program, a new grant made available to Virginia’s Destination Marketing Organizations (DMOs) across the Commonwealth that have been heavily impacted by the novel coronavirus pandemic to fund recovery marketing initiatives.

$866,504 in marketing grant funds were awarded to 90 Destination Marketing Organizations as part of the DMO WanderLove Recovery Grant program. Gloucester will use the VTC WanderLove grant funds to promote its attractions of history and outdoor recreation, create a LOVEworks, and showcase why Gloucester is the place “For History, For Beauty, For Fun!”

NetworkPeninsula Invites Nonprofits to Participate in Survey
NetworkPeninsula invites Peninsula-serving nonprofits to participate in an anonymous survey to collect data on racial and other demographics in our sector (including staff, leaders, boards, and donors). This survey should take less than 20 minutes to complete.

There are no right or wrong answers, as the goal is to assess and understand the demographics of nonprofit leadership/staff on the Peninsula. To access the SURVEY, CLICK HERE

The deadline to complete is September 15. (This survey is one component of our new program FACES – Framework for Action to Center Equity in our Sector. The FACES program will focus on centering equity in our sector and identifying and creating actionable steps for change. The program will involve multiple components. To learn more, click here.).

Masks available from NetworkPeninsula

NetworkPeninsula has been coordinating with FEMA and VA VOAD to receive masks for distribution to area nonprofits. NetworkPeninsula will be receiving 50,000 masks for distribution in Newport News on Thursday, September 10.  The face coverings are 100% cotton and contain silver and copper, which help prevent the growth of viruses and germs. Washable. Adult One-size fits all. Fabric is 100% cotton, white in color and loops over the ears. Per FEMA Guidelines, these are for staff and volunteers only. If you are interested, please email [email protected] by end of the day Friday, September 3 to let her know how many you need.

The Plant Sale will feature native plants, trees, shrubs, herbs, houseplants and more! The two-day event will be Friday Sept. 11 from 4-6 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 12 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m.

Gloucester County is assessing the economic impacts to local businesses due to the the threat of COVID-19, in an effort to report them accurately to state and federal partners. Additional assistance may be available if the County reaches certain thresholds in overall impact. We ask all local business partners to report any economic impacts to Gloucester’s Business Recovery Coordinator, Sherry Spring, on a weekly basis so that we may better assist you. Please email reports every Friday by noon each week with any losses you incur.
