...to know Christ and to make him known
Matthew 13: 31-52
Church and it's Mission Pt. 6

A church is a place that fosters spiritual formation and growth and where Jesus is confessed and experienced as risen Lord.  It is a place where people are initiated by Baptism into the Body of Christ and nourished in the Eucharist for service in the world.  And a church is a place where a community is created.  Bonhoeffer discusses the service of listening, helping and bearing one another. [1]
He was deeply aware that a community is a sort of extended family, it cannot be artificially manufactured, it can only come by providing a setting where with trained leaders and prayer, God's spirit will come and give it life and integrity.
People come to church with great burdens on their hearts and a deep distress in their spirit.  Life can be hard and cruel, and many of us come to a church seeking comfort and relief.  I know I did.  We come seeking a God who can bind up our broken hearts. The church must be a place where deep pastoral care is the ongoing "business" of the church.  Where we must do less "church" work and do more God's work.  I believe that was Bonhoeffer's vision, when that kind of pastoral care is happening, a church comes alive, and when the sorrow of one becomes the pain of all and the laughter of one is the joy of all, then you have a real church.  A church is a community that bears our burdens and rejoices in our victories.  A church is place where people learn to serve the needs of the world and find their own lives transformed.  I deeply believe there are few tasks more important in the basic mission of a church.

Eucharistic Adoration

Do you know what eucharistic adoration is?  Private eucharistic adoration often involves prayer near the tabernacle or aumbry where the sacrament is reserved. In other words, sitting quietly or meditating alone in the church.
We will be allowing eucharistic adoration shortly at Grace on a reservation basis.  At this time, we are looking for volunteers, who have keys to the church, to come and open the church and then sanitize the area between reservations.  If you are interested, please email
