I would like to thank everyone for allowing me a couple of months off from the newsletter after the passing of my father and one of the founders of our business, Dick Mueller. For those of you who did not know, Dick passed on August 2 after a battle with cancer. Thank you to everyone who sent their condolences after his passing, they were greatly a
ppreciated by myself and the entire family.
Before Dick passed he told me on several occasions that we should not shut down the business even for a few hours after he was gone (of course we did anyway) but in keeping with what Dick would have wanted everyone to do, we will go on with company business!
We do our best to add new videos to our YouTube channel on a regular basis and you can subscribe or check out all our videos on our channel by clicking
HERE.
In this months video and article I am addressing the adjustment of the gibs on your Bridgeport Series I milling machine. If you would like to watch me completing the task in video form you can click
HERE to watch it.
One question I hear many times is "do you repair more than Bridgeports?" and the answer is a resounding Yes! We repair and rebuild mills, lathes, grinders, saws, brakes, shears and may others. For example, right now in our work flow are the following:
Lagun FTV-2 milling Machine
LeBlond Servo Shift Lathe
Monarch EE Lathe
Clausing 1440 Lathe
Clausing 1672 Lathe
Brown & Sharpe 618 Micromaster Surface Grinder
Brown & Sharpe 1236 Micromaster SurfaceGrinder
American Radial Arm Drill
Fryer VB60 CNC Mill
Chevalier 1236 CNC Grinder
Sharp Automatic Surface Grinder
2 Bridgeport Series II Mills
5 Bridgeport Series I Mills,
Lagun FTV Milling Machine Head
7 Bridgeport Series I heads
This month we are highlighting the
Newall DP500 Digital Readout system. If you love the Newall DRO systems this is a special kit they put together at a special price. We currently have the 2-axis milling machine kits on sale for $925.00. For more information on these systems please click
HERE to take you to our website for all the details.
We also have several other items on special below. Most of them are out of the quarterly sales catalog we send out with each order.
Our webmaster, Virginia has been hard at work updating and adding to our offerings. She has developed a new web site,
www.hwmachinerepair.com This site is more informational in nature but has many links to our original site,
www.machinerypartsdepot.com where you go to order parts online.
Give us a call at 800-285-5271 if you are needing any service, parts, tooling or accessories for your equipment and we will do our best to make sure you are taken care of.
Have a wonderful October,
Barry, Debbi, Virginia, Nicole, Heather and the rest of the gang.

X-Axis Gib Screw |
1. The
X-axis Gib (table) is located under the front left hand side of the table. Using a long flat head screwdriver Turn the
Gib Adjusting Screw in while slowly turning the handle. Once you have the gib adjusted to the position you feel is correct crank the table back and forth to make sure you have full travel (some worn machines may not give you full travel)
|
 |
Table _ Saddle Locks |
 |
2. Once you have the gib adjusted, lock the saddle lock and release the table lock and rock the table back and forth. If you have rock in the table you will need to adjust the gib in a little more.
 |
|
 |
Y-Axis Gib Screw |
3. The Y-Axis Gib (saddle) is located under the front Way Wiper Cover on the left side. You will follow the same proceedure and the X-axis but when you check for rock you will lock the table lock and unlock the saddle lock.
|
 |
Z-Axis Gib Screw |
 |
4. The
Z-Axis Gib (Column) is located under the way wiper cover on the left side of the column. You will use the same procedure to adjust this gib as the X&Y except you are moving the
Elevating Crank while adjusting so an extra set of hands would be a help.
 |
|
 |
Elevating Crank _ Lock |
5. To test the rock of the Z-axis lock both the table and saddle locks and unlock the
Knee Lock and attempt to rock the knee side to side. If you can rock it adjust the gib a little tighter.
|
 |
Way Wiper Set |
 |
8. While you are completing the adjustments it would be a good idea to replace your
Felt Wipers. Under normal conditions they should be changed every couple of years and most machines I see are still running with the original wipers. To see the video of this procedure please click
HERE
You have now successfully adjusted your gibs! Next month we will be shimming a gib. If you have any questions about this article or any other machine repair questions you can contact me at
barry@hwmachinerepair.com or call us at (800) 285-5271.

Become or fan on Facebook
I have been using Facebook for a few years to keep in touch with family and friends around the world but have recently seen many companies turn to this as an area of keeping in contact with customers. After looking into it I found that we could start a
H&W Machine Repair & Rebuilding Inc. Facebook Page. The thing I like most about the page is the discussion board. If you have a questions we can answer them through the board. We will also use it to provide updates to our products and services and well as tips to help you keep your machinery running smoother. If you would like to become a "fan" of our company just click the link in the quick links section of the newsletter, once you are directed to our page you automatically become a member of our community.
