Sports & Entertainment Venues A Perfect Match

For The Precast Industry

Did you watch the Olympics from Paris this summer and wonder about the emergence of so many new sports? Now, consider where these sports might be played, and you can understand the groundswell in the planning and construction of new sports and concert venues. Precast and these sports and entertainment complexes are a perfect match.

Developers, municipal entities, and privately-owned companies are in the planning stages of creating entertainment/music/sports/community event stadiums; these are hybrid, place-making live venues which are indoor/outdoor complexes.

Currently, there are more than 1,300 major sports stadiums, most with more than 10,000 seats, expected to bring in nearly $15 billion dollars in revenue just in 2024.

Beyond hosting football, major concerts, basketball, hockey and more, these venues are designed to be filled year around and to accommodate other revenue-generating elements like merchandise and food and beverage sales, and parking. It's clear why these complexes are an in-demand customer for architects and precast producers.

The team at Hamilton Form is actively tracking progress on more than 50 venues right now across the USA and Canada that will be entering the pipeline in the next one to three years. Some of these are college venues, some are for professional teams, many are new builds, some are rehabs — all are large complexes covering ever larger expanses of public land.

“We work with our precast clients to bring the architect’s vision to life," said Charlie Leidholdt, Sales Manager at Hamilton Form Company. “In that capacity we understand sight-lines and serving the ultimate customers, we understand the differentiation between luxury accommodations and stadium capacities and the myriad nuances of today’s sport and entertainment facilities.”

“It’s a new era. We have more than 40 years of experience with the custom needs of sports and entertainment venues. No two are the same, every single one is truly custom,” he explained.

"With a focus on ‘global plant labor’ we offer recommendations for maximizing efficiencies and saving labor costs, especially the design and reuse of the steel forms."

No product is better than precast for speed, quality and time on site, Leidholdt added.

“The projects we are working on now are larger and multi-purpose and will be filled every week of the year. We must take into consideration needs for Wi-Fi, exceptionally large screens, security, crowd flow and control, television cameras, parking, luxury suites and more elaborate spaces,” said Leidholdt.

“Hotels, restaurants, outdoor gathering spaces and retail are often part of the overall plan. Projects in the works are exceedingly intricate and must serve multiple demographics.“

"Just in the United States, six major stadiums are in the process of being built, and 46 more are in the planning and RFP stages. It is an incredibly good time to be in the precast business."

Meet Peter Ollmann, President

and Co-owner of Hamilton Form Company

“The future of the precast and prestressed industry will be a mix,” says Peter Ollmann, President and Co-owner of Hamilton Form Company, a leading custom form company in North America. “It will be a combination of old and new, like robotics versus old world craftsmanship. Nothing can replace the experience of people who are veterans of this industry and care about the outcome.”

"Every new structure our precast and prestressed customers build is a testament to the importance and capabilities of this industry.

The challenges our customers face, overcome and exceed are stunning. What’s to come is not only innovative, it is complex. Structures being designed today are intricate with elements never included before like communications, security, secondary uses and more."

Ollmann is pictured here with his two Golden Retrievers, Georgie on the left and Bo on the right.

“A bridge is no longer just a bridge, it is a community connection point, sometimes also an art gallery, a bike trail, a riot of colored lights highlighting annual celebrations, and many even have with their own websites."

"As for the custom forms we build to make those structures possible, it means I have one of the most rewarding jobs. Every time I see a drawing for a new precast structure, I am so proud of our customers, knowing what it took or will take to build that bridge, parking garage, data center or new sports and entertainment venue. The job for Hamilton Form’s team is to be ready for what the customer needs."

“We are so bullish on this industry. Building custom forms for precast customers is all this company has ever done, for more than 50 years."

"What our customers are creating is exceptional and this is an industry that deserves a committed and trained workforce as well as national recognition for being ready to take on whatever the coming years bring. At Hamilton Form, we’re ready to support our customers and whatever comes next.”

Smarter, Faster and Lower Labor Costs –

That’s the New Smart Stress System (SSS)

It’s here – the team at Hamilton Form has designed a smarter way to stress strand.

“Our precast industry is a tight-knit group,” said Norm Presello, Operations Manager at Gate Precast Hillsboro. “We were glad to work with Hamilton Form to test their new Smart Stress System.”

After several years of research and development, Hamilton Form partnered with Gate to real-world test the SSS before bringing it to market this year.
