You share your birthday with 19 million people.
On average, a person will share a birthday with 19 million other people from a population of over 7 billion. If you were born on the least common day of the year, you would still share the same birthday as 18 million people.

HEALTHY TIP OF
THE WEEK
Hydration aids in maintaining a good complexion.
As cliche as it seems, drinking ample amounts of water, is good for the skin. It also makes facial skin less prone to wrinkles.

Caring Hands PCT of the Year
|
Congratulations to Kirsten Schroeder for being named the 2022 Caring Hands PCT of the Year Award Winner!
Kirsten had two nominations from members of her team:
Nomination #1: "No other PCT compares! The hardest worker, the sweetest personality, simply the best. Kirsten does anything asked of her without hesitation or question.
For example, Kirsten offers to get all 20 patients vitals during shifts she works because she is often the only PCT working. She never complains. She is always down to offer a helping hand with a smile. The nights Kirsten is scheduled to work, it instantly makes my night better. I have worked in a nursing home as well as here at the hospital, and I have yet to come into contact with anyone’s work ethic that even slightly compares to Kirsten. I cannot say enough great things about this PCT!"
Nomination #2: "I believe Kirsten should be selected as PCT of the year because she goes above and beyond for the patients and coworkers. She always has a positive attitude and is willing to work. She is supportive of the nurses and a strong leader. She is observant, patient, and emotionally strong. She always anticipates needs of the patients and coworkers. I cannot explain the amount of gratitude that we all have for her on night shift. The care that Kirsten provides for our patients is phenomenal.
One night I had a patient who was not doing well and was starting to tank. Kirsten, without asking, covered my patients for me by finishing my morning vitals and taking them to the bathroom so I could focus on my sick patient. She also checked in with me after that really hard shift to make sure that I was mentally and emotionally ok. She is very kind to all of our patients and other coworkers. Most nights that she floats to the floor and has all 20 patients, she will get all morning vitals, I&O, trash, and bathroom visits done before the shift is over with a great attitude even when we try to offer to take on some of the vitals. She is a very hard worker that never complains and truly loves what she does. When we have difficult patients, she handles them with grace and patience that is so humbling to watch."
Congratulations, Kirsten, we thank you for taking outstanding care of our patients, being a great team member for the Acute Care Unit, and for being such a caring and compassionate PCT at HaysMed. You are truly appreciated!

Dear HaysMed Associates,
Associate Health and Infection Control here, with several important reminders to ensure every member of our staff stays safe during another COVID-19 surge. Your health and safety and the safety of our patients is our top priority. We ask that you continue to take the necessary steps to help slow the spread of COVID. Doing this may help you stay healthy and allow you to continue to work and enjoy the rest of summer outside of work.
-
Stay home from work or if you’re sick.
-
Get tested for COVID. If you have a sore throat or cold-like symptoms make a call to Associate Health at ext. 2173 to make an appointment at the drive thru or go to a provider for an assessment and COVID testing. Drive thru testing is M-F 8-430p. Home tests are also a good way to get quick results. These can be purchased at local pharmacies. Click this link for FREE COVID TESTS.
- Be respectful of our community and facility by wearing a mask and always wear it properly. Universal masking remains mandatory.
- Remind families and visitors to wear a mask even in a patient’s room.
- Maintain social distance at the nurse's station, in office spaces, and during breaks especially lunch breaks.
- Follow the safe process to room patients and direct bedding with masking, Care of the COVID patient has not changed.
COVID-19 is still in our community and very prevalent at this time. Help us to limit transmission and to keep everyone safe.
-
Get your COVID booster. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), vaccines continue to protect people from getting seriously ill, being hospitalized—especially people who have received a booster.
- CDC recommends everyone aged 12 years and up receive a COVID booster. Make a appointment with Associate Health or vaccines are available at pharmacies and the health department.
-
A second booster is recommended for adults aged 50 and older. Learn more about who can get a second booster.
The United States is in the midst of another coronavirus surge, this time thanks to the Omicron subvariant BA.5. The subvariant appears to be the virus’s most transmissible version to date, and it is reinfecting people who have already dealt with previous variants once or twice, sometimes as recently as a few weeks before. Don’t lower your guard and protect your peers and patients.
Take care of yourselves and your families. If you have questions, please reach out to Kevin Myers or Sarah Powers.

The Tranquility Room is a space that has been transformed to feel like a place where staff can go to relax, refocus, and re-energize. Tranquility means the quality or state of being free from agitation of mind or spirit, free from disturbance.
The Tranquility Room is currently located in room 229 on the 2nd floor. It includes low lighting, a recliner chair with ottoman, leather couch, yoga mat, massage roller, exercise ball, spiritual items and relaxation tools such as soothing music and DVD's.
All Associates are invited to use the room. To be thoughtful of colleagues, we do ask that you limit your time to 15 minutes, one at a time in the room, and please use the dis-infective wipes on any items used during your stay prior to leaving the room. In addition, please use the suggestion/comment box in the room for resiliency ideas!

Community Volunteerism - August
|
|
HaysMed encourages Associates to be active volunteers in the community. Being an active volunteer in the community not only has a positive effect on the community, but a positive effect on Associates as well as the organization.
"Happy Kids"
For the Month of August... the focus is on Happy Kids in the community.
As kids in Ellis County prepare to go back to school, there are many supplies that they need, which families may not be able to afford. Wouldn't it feel good to support a child going back to school? First Call for Help organizes the Backpacks for Kids and provides backpacks with school supplies and personal hygiene items to low-income Ellis County children. Please contact Laura at First Call for Help for more information at 623-2500.
