The US Supreme Court has upheld the CMS Covid Vaccine Mandate ruling for healthcare workers. Injunctions have been lifted and CMS has advised Medicare and Medicaid-certified facilities that these requirements have become enforceable. Hospitals and Critical Access Hospitals in Kansas must be in compliance with the first portion of the vaccine mandate by February 13, 2022. This means that all HaysMed and Pawnee Valley Community Hospital Associates will need to have received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine or submitted a request for medical or religious exemption on or before February 13, 2022. Additionally, on or before March 15, 2022, Associates who received the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine will need to have received the second dose of their vaccine series.
Boosters are not required as part of this mandate. DNV and KDHE surveyors will begin surveying hospitals for compliance with these requirements on Monday, February 14, 2022.
If you have not yet met the requirements of the CMS Covid Vaccine Mandate, your Director/Manager will be reaching out to you.

Employees may have received a termination notice from The Hartford regarding their policies through TUKHS and The Hartford. Employees & dependents who were terminated from the UKHS life policy are eligible to convert their coverage. It would be very rare for someone to convert, but the notice had to be generated to stay in compliance.
You do not need to take action on the letter unless you want to convert the UKHS policy in addition to our policies at HaysMed. All employer provided life and AD & D policies are still current and active under the new HaysMed policy.
If you continued or enrolled in any other voluntary product The Hartford provides, the new policy began 1/1/2022 and is active. Current election(s) under the HaysMed policy is not affected whether or not you choose to convert any amount of coverage you had under UKHS.

Healing Kids' Hearts Retreat
|
The Healing Kids' Hearts Retreat will take place at the Hays Senior Center, 2450 E. 8th St. on Saturday, March 26, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The event is for children ages 7-12 who have lost a loved one close to them. The day's activities provide children a safe and confidential environment to learn about healthy grief and loss in responding to the death of a loved one. Led by trained volunteers, this retreat offers a variety of activities through which children learn that there are multiple ways to grieve. They will learn positive ways to honor the person who has died and create lasting memories that can provide comfort. A trained adult "buddy" is matched with each child to guide and support them through the day. If you are interested in being a buddy or know a child who would benefit from the retreat, contact Myrna Jordan at 785-623-6233 or [email protected].

Community Volunteerism - February
|
|
HaysMed encourages Associates to be active volunteers in the community. Being an active volunteer in the community not only has a positive effect on the community, but a positive effect on Associates as well as the organization.
"Helping Hearts"
For the Month of February... the focus is on Blood Donations.
There is a critical need for blood right now. Donating blood is an important aspect of healthcare. Every day, blood donors help patients of all ages: accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those battling cancer. In fact, every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. And there's no substitute for blood. When a patient receives blood, it was given in advance by a generous donor.
Some Facts About Blood:
- 4.5 million Americans need a blood transfusion each year.
- 43,000 pints: the amount of donated blood used each day in the U.S. and Canada.
- Someone needs blood every two seconds.
- Only 37 percent of the U.S. population is eligible to donate blood - less than 10 percent do annually.
- About one in seven people entering a hospital need blood.
- One pint of blood can save up to three lives.
- Healthy adults who are at least 17 years old, and at least 110 pounds may donate about a pint of blood every 56 days, or every two months.
- Females receive 53 percent of blood transfusions; males receive 47 percent.
Donate at the Hays Blood Donation Center
208 E. 8th Street
Tuesday - Weds - Thurs from 11am - 6pm
Fridays from 9am - 4pm
1st Saturday of each month from 8am - Noon
