HEALTHY TIP OF
THE WEEK
Protect Your Eyes
Did you know that your eyes can get sunburned? Yes! It is true. Protecting your eyes is very important. Whether you’re at work, home or outdoors, make sure you have protective sunglasses. Wearing sunglasses, even on a cloudy day, is one of the most important ways to protect your eyes from ultraviolet rays and avoid lasting damage to your cornea.

Associate Spirit Award Winner
|
Congratulations to Justin Cline, Manager, Rock Garden Cafe! Justin is the most recent Associate Spirit Award winner!
Justin continuously goes above and beyond for patients, family members, visitors and Associates. His nomination includes the following story:
"I am really slow at getting this email out but I wanted to let you know of an amazing thing that one of your Associates did. In March, I had contacted Justin Cline regarding a patient on the Acute Care Unit. She was a young cancer patient who was really sick. She really needed to eat or drink something but nothing sounded good to her. The only thing that she could think of that remotely sounded good was banana bread. I knew this probably wasn’t going to be readily available in the kitchen but I went to Justin’s office and explained the situation. He did not hesitate and said he would be more than happy to make a loaf of banana bread. It was approximately two hours later and he voalted me that he had delivered the banana bread to the patients room. I was just completely blown away by this. He could have rolled his eyes and said that he couldn’t make something special for a patient but that wasn’t the case. He went out of his way to deliver this patient the only thing that sounded good to her. Thank you, Justin, for putting the needs of the patient at the center of all you do. It is appreciated more than you know."
Congratulations, Justin!
Do you know someone that deserves to be recognized for going above and beyond? CLICK HERE to nominate them for the Associate Spirit Award! For each person you nominate, your name will go into a monthly drawing for $10 in chamber checks. The nominee also receives a certificate,10 high fives and the their submission goes to the Associate Engagement Team to determine the monthly spirit award winner. The award winner received 50 HaysMed bucks and their own parking space for a month.

Meet the newest member of our HaysMed TEAM!!! Hoss made his first appearance on the Acute Care Unit on Weds, July 13th, visiting with approved patients, as well as Associates. Hoss is a husky/german sheperd mix, 10 years old and belongs to Andrea Coover, APRN, who works in the Pulmonology Clinic. Andrea and Hoss are a certified Pet Therapy Team through the Alliance of Therapy Dogs.

Pet Therapy provides a positive social interaction between the pet and a patient, family, or staff member. The impact of pet therapy on the health and well being of patients in a health care facility is well documented and ranges from decreasing stress, depression and anxiety to increasing socialization, communication and mood.
Hoss thoroughly enjoyed his time visiting with patients and Associates on the Acute Care Unit! Hoss and Andrea will visit patients and staff on Wednesday afternoons! We are currently piloting this program on the Acute Care Unit but hope to expand our program to other units soon! We are currently looking for more teams!
|
Do you have a pet that would be a good fit for the Pet Therapy Program? Contact Nikki Mihm in Volunteer Services. Each of our Pet Therapy Teams are certified through a national pet therapy organization.
The pet therapy program at HaysMed is sponsored by the HaysMed Volunteers.

State Fire Marshal Inspection
|
The State Fire Marshal Office (SFMO) was on site Tues/Weds, July 12 and 13 to conduct a facility wide fire inspection.
Overall, the facility did very well. There were a few items that we were able to address immediately to prevent a potential safety concern but we were happy with the outcome of the inspection.
Kudos to everyone that responded and assisted us in fine tuning the facility in preparation for the survey. We appreciate your help in keeping our patients and co-workers safe! Thank You!

It's always a good idea to review the dress code policy every few months. We have noticed an increase in casual Friday's becoming "too" casual. Here are a few reminders:
**If you want to wear jeans on Friday, you must wear an embroidered HaysMed or FHSU shirt. Screenprinted t-shirts are not allowed unless approved by Administration (i.e.Top 20 and FHSU/HaysMed tshirts).
**The Top 20 as well as FHSU/HaysMed t-shirts are allowed ONLY on Fridays. They should not be worn other days during the week. These are also the only screenprinted t-shirts allowed.
**Denim capris are considered too casual and not allowed on Fridays.
**When coming to HaysMed for a class, and clocking in (getting paid for that class), make sure you are following the dress code policy. Shorts are not allowed.

In order to respond to STAT work orders in a timely manner, we ask that you please call the number listed in the service requester for emergencies or stat work orders (in addition to filling out the work order). This will ensure we get to stat orders immediately. We do not sit and monitor the service requests that come in so it may be an hour or two before we would see a stat request. Please call us if something needs immediate attention. Thank You for your help in assuring we meet the needs of our facility in a timely manner!

The Tranquility Room is a space that has been transformed to feel like a place where staff can go to relax, refocus, and re-energize. Tranquility means the quality or state of being free from agitation of mind or spirit, free from disturbance.
The Tranquility Room is currently located in room 229 on the 2nd floor. It includes low lighting, a recliner chair with ottoman, leather couch, yoga mat, massage roller, exercise ball, spiritual items and relaxation tools such as soothing music and DVD's.
All Associates are invited to use the room. To be thoughtful of colleagues, we do ask that you limit your time to 15 minutes, one at a time in the room, and please use the dis-infective wipes on any items used during your stay prior to leaving the room. In addition, please use the suggestion/comment box in the room for resiliency ideas!
