HEALTHY TIP OF
THE WEEK
Breakfast is Important
Breakfast is often called ‘the most important meal of the day’, and for good reason. As the name suggests, breakfast breaks the overnight fasting period. It replenishes your supply of glucose to boost your energy levels and alertness, while also providing other essential nutrients required for good health.
Many studies have shown the health benefits of eating breakfast. It improves your energy levels and ability to concentrate in the short term, and can help with better weight management, reduced risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease in the long term.

Thank You to the Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland! Approximately 900 boxes of girls scout cookies were distributed to our Associates. These cookies were sponsored by the care and share program in which community members paid for and donated a box of cookies to essential workers. These were a much appreciated sweet treat!

The Tranquility Room is a space that has been transformed to feel like a place where staff can go to relax, refocus, and re-energize. Tranquility means the quality or state of being free from agitation of mind or spirit, free from disturbance.
The Tranquility Room is currently located in room 229 on the 2nd floor. It includes low lighting, a recliner chair with ottoman, leather couch, yoga mat, massage roller, exercise ball, spiritual items and relaxation tools such as soothing music and DVD's.
All Associates are invited to use the room. To be thoughtful of colleagues, we do ask that you limit your time to 15 minutes, one at a time in the room, and please use the dis-infective wipes on any items used during your stay prior to leaving the room. In addition, please use the suggestion/comment box in the room for resiliency ideas!

Community Volunteerism - May
|
|
HaysMed encourages Associates to be active volunteers in the community. Being an active volunteer in the community not only has a positive effect on the community, but a positive effect on Associates as well as the organization.
"The Need Is GREAT"
For the Month of May... the focus is on donating blood!
The American Red Cross is facing a national blood crisis – its worst blood shortage in over a decade, posing a concerning risk to patient care. Doctors have been forced to make difficult decisions about who receives blood transfusions and who will need to wait until more products become available. Blood and platelet donations are critically needed to help prevent further delays in vital medical treatments. Please schedule your blood donation today.
What is causing the blood shortage crisis?
10% overall blood donation decline since March 2020.62% drop in college and high school blood drives due to the pandemic. Student donors accounted for ~25% of donors in 2019 accounted for just ~10% during the pandemic.Ongoing blood drive cancellations due to illness, weather-related closures and staffing limitations.Additional factors like a surge of COVID-19 cases and an active flu season may compound the already bad situation.
If you are a healthy individual, please consider donating!
HaysMed Blood Drive will be held on Tuesday, May 17th from 11am - 5pm at The Center for Health Improvement CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP!
OR
Red Cross (208 E. 8th Street) in Hays is open these hours:
Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday 11am - 6pm
Friday 9am - 4pm
Saturday 8am - Noon
