New Hanover County's Second Microchip Scanning Station

Heidi's Hope Donates a Microchip Scanning Station to Carolina Beach

Police Department

Exciting news for pet owners in Carolina Beach and New Hanover County! Heidi's Hope For Homeless Animals has indeed donated a microchip scanning station to the Carolina Beach Police Department. (Continued)

Microchip scanning stations help quickly reunite lost pets with their owners. When a pet is found, a simple scan reveals their microchip ID, which links to the owner's contact info. Unlike collars or tags, microchips are permanent—making fast, safe returns much more likely.

Having scanning stations readily available in the community, like the one now at the Carolina Beach Police Department thanks to Heidi’s Hope for Homeless Animals, ensures that found pets can be identified and reunited more efficiently.

Celebrating Our CPO's, (Chief Paws Officer),

Paw-some Achievement: Sophie Transformed From

Puppy Mill Breeding Dog to Certified Therapy Dog!

We’re thrilled to unleash some tail-waggingly wonderful news—our very own CPO (Chief Paws Officer), Sophie Arnold, has officially earned her Assisted Animal Therapy Certification!

Sophie’s journey is nothing short of inspiring. Once a puppy mill dog, Sophie spent seven heartbreaking years caged, forced to breed litter after litter for the insatiable designer puppy trade. Like most puppy mill dogs, when she could no longer produce puppies, she was discarded. Thankfully, a rescue organization stepped in to give her a second chance. After two cancer surgeries and being passed over for adoption due another upcoming cancer surgery, our founder, Trish, adopted Sophie into her forever home in August—and the transformation began!

At first, Sophie had never walked on a leash, wasn’t housetrained, and had never known love or socialization.

(Continued)

But with patience, dedication, and a plenty of treats (her

favorite!), Sophie began to blossom. Sophie and her mom enrolled in Assisted Animal Therapy training with Four Paws, NC. Sophie began to shine! Just last month, she earned her AKC Blue Ribbon for Canine Good Citizen. Earlier this month, Sophie achieved a heartwarming milestone—she proudly earned her vest and became an official Certified Therapy Dog!

She and Trish are now a certified therapy team, ready to spread comfort and joy to patients in hospitals, assisted living homes, and more. In just eight short months, Sophie has gone from a neglected breeding dog to a shining symbol of resilience, hope, and healing-- truly a beauty for ashes moment in her life.

We couldn’t be prouder of this brave, sweet girl. Sophie’s new motto?

Who says you can’t teach a dog new tricks?

Way to go, Sophie—we are so proud of you!

April's Paw-some

Progress at Heidi's Hope

April has been another busy and pawsitively impactful month for Heidi’s Hope For Homeless Animals!

We’re thrilled to announce the donation of another Microchip Scanning Station—this time to the Carolina Beach Police Department! It was a true pleasure partnering with Chief Ward and his amazing team at CBPD. The new scanner is now installed and operational at their Police Department Headquarters, making it easier than ever to help reunite lost pets with their families.

This marks the second Microchip Scanning Station in New Hanover County—and we’re not stopping there! More are on the way as we continue our mission to bring lost pets back home. (continued)

Meanwhile, our Pet Food Bank has been hard at work—just like every month! We proudly distribute pet food to our incredible network of pet food partners, thanks to strong collaborations with organizations like Good Shepherd Center, Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard, First Fruit Ministries, Catholic Charities, Share the Table, our Pet Meals on Wheels programs, and many more. These partnerships help us provide consistent support

to pets and their families across our community, ensuring that no pet goes hungry.

We’re also sending a heartfelt thank you to Greater Good Charities and Greenies for donating five pallets of dog food to help fuel our mission. Thanks to their generosity, we’ve been able to feed even more furry friends who need a helping paw.

And mark your calendars—The Bow Wow Luau & The Cat’s Meow® returns on Saturday, July 26th! After a few years in the spring, we’re bringing the fun back to summer, where it all began. Get ready for tropical vibes, tail wags, and a celebration you won’t want to miss. More exciting details are coming your way soon!

As we continue this life-saving work, we need your help. Every dollar makes a difference—whether it’s $10 or more, your gift helps feed hungry pets, provide vital resources, and bring animals home where they belong. No donation is too small, and every bit is truly appreciated. Together, we can make a big impact—one paw at a time!

Michael Workman, Assistant Manager, from AA Storage on Eastwood Road, proved himself to be a true animal hero when he spotted a little dog near traffic on Eastwood Road. Without hesitation, he rescued her and brought her safely into the office. After giving her water and trying the outdated number on her tag, he made a few calls and left some voicemails. Within 20 minutes, the grateful owners arrived—Molly Rockstar had jumped out of their car, and thanks to Michael’s quick thinking and compassion, she was safely reunited with her family!
