Thanks, FOX Wilmington! Heidi's Hope Expands Microchip Scanners, Reuniting Pets Across the Region

Thanks, FOX Wilmington! We’re so grateful to FOX Wilmington for inviting us into the studio to share exciting news—Heidi’s Hope is expanding our microchip scanning program across the region!

After launching New Hanover County’s first scanning stations at Wilmington and Carolina Beach Police Departments, we’re excited to add Wrightsville Beach Police Department to the list of partners helping reunite lost pets with their families.

And there’s more—New Hanover County Parks will soon have scanners at Long Leaf Park, Echo Farms Park, and Smith Creek Park, making it even easier for the community to help bring pets home.

Together, we're giving pets a better chance of being found—and keeping families together.

Heidi’s Hope for Homeless Animals Donates Life-Saving Pet Oxygen Masks to Wilmington Fire Department

Heidi's Hope is proud to announce the donation of three complete sets of pet oxygen masks—each including small, medium, and large sizes—to the Wilmington Fire Department.

These specially designed masks can be critical in saving the lives of dogs and cats affected by smoke inhalation or in need of emergency oxygen support.

At Heidi’s Hope for Homeless Animals, we believe every life matters. We’re honored to contribute to the safety and well-being of pets in our community by equipping our local first responders with the tools they need to care for animals during emergencies. We’re honored to support both the people and the pets in our community.

Now, thanks to the donation of pet oxygen masks, firefighters will be better equipped to help save dogs and cats during house fires—giving them the critical oxygen support they need when every second counts.

Microchip Success Stories

Stormy Night Rescue:

Jana Hinson's Heroic Rescue of Lost Dog, Powered by

Our Microchip Scanner

On her way to work during a heavy thunderstorm, Jana Hinson spotted a soaked, scared dog standing in the middle of the road. She brought him home, gave him food, water, and a warm place to rest, and monitored him remotely while at work. Later, she took him to the Carolina Beach Police Department, where our newly-installed Microchip Scanning Station helped reveal outdated chip info—just enough to identify the dog and track down his owner through Facebook. By 8 p.m., he was safely back home. The experience underscored the importance of keeping microchip details up to date—it made all the difference in this happy ending!

Another Happy Homecoming

It’s been a paws-itively amazing month at Heidi’s Hope for Homeless Animals! We’re thrilled to share that our new microchip scanning stations—the first of their kind in New Hanover County—are already reuniting lost pets with their families. So far, two pets have made it safely home, thanks to this initiative! You’ll find scanners at the Wilmington, Carolina Beach, and Wrightsville Beach Police Departments, with more coming soon to Long Leaf, Echo Farms, and Smith Creek Parks.

This month, we also equipped the Wilmington Fire Department with three sets of pet oxygen masks, specially designed for dogs and cats. These masks can be life-saving during house fires, giving pets the oxygen they need in those critical moments. We’re proud to

support our amazing first responders in their efforts to protect all lives—human and furry.

Meanwhile, our Pet Food Bank continues to provide food and supplies to families facing hardship, thanks to a strong network of local partners. Together, we’re keeping pets fed, healthy, and right where they belong—at home.

And don’t forget—save the date for Saturday, July 26th at 7:00 PM at Thalian Hall! Join us for The Bow Wow Luau & The Cat’s Meow®, an unforgettable evening of island fun, hula dancing, delicious bites, and a lively auction—all to support animals in need. Tickets go on sale soon!

Thank you for being part of our journey. Together, we’re creating brighter futures for pets in our community!
