 Around the Campfire  Roger Hutton

Happy New Year to all of you. It is my prayer that you will experience great happiness in 2012.

We had a very Merry Christmas at the Hutton house and I hope that you and your family did as well. It was wonderful to celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ and to reflect upon the magnificent impact his birth has had on the world.

2011 was a challenging year on so many fronts. Our national economy put pressure on so many people. Many regions of the country experienced disasters brought on by acts of nature. And yet, we persevered and as a result we have the opportunity to experience the better times that I know the future holds.

At the ITLA, 2011 presented us both challenges and opportunities. We overcame the challenges and took advantage of the opportunities. The state of the economy and the drought in the Southwest affected our members and as a result put financial pressure on the Association. But, we took the measures necessary to absorb these impacts and remain financially healthy. We created new revenue streams by contracting to administer the Watusi Association registrations and transfers. We eliminated the losses from our print magazine by launching this highly acclaimed E-Drover Online publication. And even with the effects of the economy and the drought we presented a wonderful experience at our 2011 Convention and Championship Show--with a profit!

In addition, we closed out the year with a cooperation agreement with the TLMA that has the potential to bring us great benefit in 2012 and beyond. We are already pursuing three aspects of that agreement.

First, the February issue of the Texas Longhorn Journal, will include articles and information relative to the ITLA. Those of you who are not also TLMA members will receive courtesy copies of the Journal for three months and at the end of that period you will have the opportunity to continue receiving the Journal by exercising a special promotional TLMA membership for $69.00 annually. So, this is your opportunity to receive the premier print publication in the Texas Longhorn industry, which will now include content specific to ITLA.

Second, we agreed to jointly evaluate conducting the TLMA's Longhorn World Championship (LWC), its annual horn measurement and sale, and our ITLA Convention and Championship Show at the same location in 2012. We are currently coordinating with the TLMA in evaluating potential sites and I expect to be able to communicate the final choice to you in our February E-Drover.

Lastly, we presented current ITLA members and  TLMA members who would join ITLA, the opportunity to take advantage of reduced registration and transfer prices. This promotion increased our registrations by five fold over the level experienced in December 2011. Because we did not make these available to TLMA members until mid-December, we have extended the promotion through the end of February.

So we are moving forward aggressively to maximize the benefit of the ITLA/TLMA Cooperation agreement for all of you. I will keep you posted on our progress.

In 2011 we presented a very successful Marketing Seminar in Branson, Missouri. As a result we have had tremendous interest expressed in having another seminar in 2012. Preliminary planning is underway for a seminar in the eastern part of the country in early summer. So, stay tuned for more as this develops.

Let me close by thanking all of you who make up the ITLA for your continued support of your Association. Wonderful opportunities lay before us in 2012, let's be bold and take advantage of them.

Warm Regards,

Roger Hutton

ITLA Youth President's Message

by Cally Cox

First, I would like to thank everyone that helped me accomplish my goal this year to become President of the ITLA Youth Organization for 2011. It's a great honor for me and I appreciate you all.

I am very excited about the upcoming year and the changes that are being made for our youth's organization. One thing is having Shelby Coats as Vice President because I know she has many great ideas. This year is going to be one of the best for us and I'm really looking forward to our youth growing and becoming the best it's ever been.

This last year has been hard for many in the cattle business with all the rising expenses that go along with our cattle; if we can just "weather the drought", hopefully, things will get better. Our youth are the future of ITLA and I hope we can become more involved with many of the different groups that we have in our organization. Shelby, and I are making plans to visit some of you, personally, throughout the year and are excited about it. We are also organizing a youth committee to assist in all projects and bring new ideas to the year's activities.

As President, I want to be able to get to know as many of you as I can throughout this coming year by attending some of our upcoming youth camps and shows.

We are very fortunate to have Raelynn Stephens as our Youth Chair and Danielle Andrews as our Co-chair leading us this year. I appreciate their efforts to make our youth organization strong and production. I know they have some great ideas for us and are willing to commit to our youth and the changes we hope to make.

Thanks, again, for all you do to help make the ITLA Youth Organization a great organization and I look forward to meeting you and making connections along the way.

Cally Cox

MERRY CHRISTMAS and a Happy New Year to all of you.

Indian Territory TLA logo

If you were unable to attend the business meeting and Christmas Party, you sure missed a good time. The parade was rained out so all of us there in time for it just visited and drank coffee.

Election of officers and directors:

President: Wesley Watson

Vice President: Jim Pruett

Secretary: Mary Ellen Maddox

Treasurer: Patti Gilbreth

Directors: Newly elected Cody Moore, Doris Snyder and Randi Maddox join the other Directors, Paul Gilbreth, Dick Lambrecht and Bob Weaver

Above are your officers and directors, feel free to contact any of them.

It looks like 2012 is going to be an exciting year. Wesley Watson is heading up our ITTLA Sale. It will be in Durant, the date is yet to be set. Wesley has a lot of good ideas to try and get more buyers to our sale. Bob Weaver and other members of ITTLA will assist Wesley in any way they can.

ITTLA will also considering having a Futurity - more on that as it becomes available.

The proposed change to the By-Laws, Article XI - Utilization of the ITTLA's Goods, Services and Assets, was approved by the membership. I will attach a copy of the By-Laws to the Smoke Signal in the near future.

Our ITTLA photographer, also known as BobWeaver sent me some pictures from the meeting/Christmas Party and then his computer went crazy and he lost all his files so there will only be a few pictures and none of the officers and directors.
