September is Moon Viewing Month in Japan

Do you know about the custom of moon viewing? This coming Tuesday, September 17, the full moon is a supermoon; meaning it is at its closest to the Earth on its orbit which makes it appear larger than at other times.

September is the month of the Tsukimi (Japanese Harvest Moon) holiday in Japan. People gather to watch the moon and eat special fall foods such as dango (rice cakes), rabbit shaped mochi, and chestnuts.

For more about the Tsukimi holiday and recipes to make for your own moon viewing picnic basket visit Just One Cookbook HERE for recipes and ways to celebrate.

For more about the moon astrologically along with nicknames for this month’s moon, visit NASA’s website HERE.

Mark your calendar for Saturday, December 14th! Celebrate in our new location at 5700 N. Lincoln Avenue for a mix of honored traditions and new additions. Don’t miss the unique vendors, cultural performances, and food favorites.
