Programming Updates:

Adult Day Services will be held at the Buddhist Temple of Chicago on 1151 W Leland Ave beginning the end of March.

Saturday in person classes for Tampopo Kai will be held at Ravenswood Fellowship UMC on 4511 N. Hermitage Ave beginning March 2nd. Two class sessions will be offered from 9:00-10:00 and 10:15-11:15 AM.

Saturday in person classes for Donguri Kai Level 1 will be held at Chase Park Fieldhouse, 4701 N. Ashland Ave beginning April 18, 2024. Spots for Spring Session are open and filling up fast!
- Japanese Conversation Tables from April onwards will be held at Ravenswood Fellowship UMC. The next Japanese Conversation Table will be on Thursday, April 11th.
- Our spring fundraiser, Cranes & Cocktails, is scheduled for May 16, 2024 at Artifact Events. We hope you can join us!
Legacy Center Updates:
- The Legacy Center is temporarily suspending services. Until further notice, we are unable to accommodate any research appointment requests, reference requests, donation requests, exhibit/loan requests, or outreach programming requests. Messages left by phone or email will not receive a reply.
- Full services will resume after the move has been completed. There is currently no estimated re-opening date, but this page will be updated as more information becomes available regarding JASC’s renovation/relocation project.

Do you know a 10-12 year-old interested in learning Japanese? A new session of our Beginner for Youth online class begins Monday, March 25. This weekly class meets from 5:15 – 6:00 pm on Zoom and is taught by Akemi Taguchi.

JASC is partnering with Go For Broke National Education Center to offer young adults (21+) the opportunity to join the Chicago Cohort of the National Torchbearers 2024 program.
We provide a space for Torchbearers to engage in civic engagement and dialogue, service learning opportunities, and building community across the nation. The program encourages young people (ages 21-30 and older) to apply the Go For Broke spirit through dialogue and social action.
As we expand in numbers, regions and cultures, and the programming will continue to explore, adapt, and stimulate stronger community connections across all identities.

JASC is partnering with Yo! Camp again to offer a one-week overnight camp experience June 30 to July 7, 2024 in California for ages 9 – 14 (rising 4th to 9th graders).

Nireus: Tatsu Aoki & Jim Baker Duo at Elastic Arts

Headlining the evening will be Nireus, an electronic new music duo including violinist Clara Takarabe and composer / synthesist / multi-instrumentalist H. Anton Riehl. Their broad musical style is influenced by their shared history in classical music, with deep ties to electronic and experimental music. You can hear influences from Palestrina to Shostakovich, Penderecki to Tan Dun, or the music of medieval Andalusia running through their cinematic expressions. The opening act will be an acoustic duet from longtime friends and collaborators Tatsu Aoki and Jim Baker. These two have been stalwarts of the Chicago creative music community for decades through numerous ensembles, solo work, and organizing. It’ll be a great night. Join us! Music at 8:30pm
