December's Exploring Creativity Class Is Inspiring

Join us for the December edition of our Exploring Creativity class, where we'll draw inspiration from extraordinary artists who continued to create well into their 90s and even 100s. As we age, the prospect of venturing into new artistic endeavors can feel daunting, and these artists serve as inspiring role models, with their life-long pursuit of learning and creating.

Each session is organized around a specific theme that we explore by delving into the life stories and artistic legacies of different artists. With their unique styles as our guide, we will make abstract color collages, mini assemblage sculptures, play some surrealist games, create watercolor portraits, and more. Don't miss the chance to join this enriching experience and discover the joy of the creative process. The FREE class meets via Zoom on Wednesdays in December, starting December 6, from 10:30 to 11:30 am. Email Emily Christensen at [email protected] to enroll.

Older Adult Team Presents at Caregiver Conference

In support of National Family Caregivers Month and National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month, JFS’ Older Adult team, including Katie Young and Emily Christensen, pictured here, attended the Mountainland Association of Governments (MAG) Caregiver Conference on November 3. Themed "Discovering Clarity, Vision & Joy," the event provided an excellent platform for our team to showcase JFS' commitment to bringing joy into the lives of families affected by dementia.

The Older Adults program at JFS offers support, enrichment, creative expression, socialization and connection to those with a dementia diagnosis and their loved ones. Caregiver Support groups, Gleeful Choir, and Dementia-Friendly Activities provide a lifeline to the dementia community and their caregivers and families, all at no cost. Our dedicated staff are recognized leaders in this field and share their expertise at conferences and groups across Salt Lake, Utah, Wasatch, and Summit Counties. We also offer tailored mental health counseling and aging support services to those in need. Learn more on our website here or call us at 801-746-4334.

Finding Support and Community Through JFS Caregiver Groups

Navigating the challenges of caring for a loved one with dementia can be an isolating and emotionally taxing journey. For those seeking solace and understanding, the Caregiver Support groups at Jewish Family Service (JFS) have become a lifeline. Rosemary Quatrale, the Older Adult Care Manager at JFS, initiated these groups six years ago to provide a sense of community and support for caregivers facing the complexities of a dementia diagnosis, often involving a parent or spouse.
