Volume 9 Issue 3
May 2022
There are many holidays celebrating families in May and June, including Children's Day (Japan) and Mother's and Father's Days (worldwide).

If you have ever wondered what raising a child in Japan might be like, you may wish to check out the show Old Enough! (はじめてのおつかい). While it's a tv program that has aired in Japan for over 30 years, Netflix recently began streaming several episodes on their U.S. platform, causing an instant cult following and lots of internet buzz (as seen here and here). In the show, toddlers 2-5 years old are asked to depart alone on their first errand. As you cheer them on amidst their struggle and triumph, you naturally feel a heartwarming connection and recognize that both parental love and love from one's community are universal languages.

We hope you may feel this warmth during this time of year and throughout the upcoming months whether your are a parent, mentor, friend, or neighbor.
