With warmer days filling the calendar, May in Japan is a time of activity and fun. Colorful koi flags decorate towns and "swim" with the wind for Children's Day (May 5th) and many Japanese people take time off to travel before the start of the rainy season.
Still, there are quieter moments too. For the nuns at Otowasan Kannonji Temple in Kyoto, their days are filled with spring cleaning, cooking, mountain foraging, and welcoming guests. Everyday moments offer opportunities for humor and comradery, and there is joy in these daily tasks.
We hope you find this month likewise filled with laughter and comfort!
