When Things Are "Out of Our Control!"
"While it looks like things are "out of control," behind the scenes there is a God who hasn't surrendered His authority."--Tozer
So he will do to me whatever he has planned. He controls my destiny. Job 23:14 NLT
I've struggled with what to write to you this month. God gave me this message, but quite honestly, I didn't want to write it. How did it tie into mentoring anyway? But after the fourth "hint" of the day, I "got it" and surrendered, so here it is.
The truth is pretty much everything is out of our control. That statement alarms you, if like me, you want life to be under control. Surely, we can somehow alter the outcome of circumstances to turn out good . . . or at least in our favor. We want our candidate who most closely represents our Christian morals and values to win the election. I know I do, and have done the best I can to have my voice heard...but I'm only one voice among many. "Out of my control!"
I received a medical diagnosis and the doc said you must take these meds forever or things will only get worse. "Out of my control!"
I just received an email that the editor I have worked with at my publisher is leaving in four days, and I just submitted my new book last month. A letter several weeks ago said another one of my publishers lost their distributor and their acquisition editor quit. "Out of my control!"
For those of you following the Woman to Woman Mentoring Ministry: How to Start, Grow, and Maintain a Mentoring Ministry Leader Guide, or have been to one of my seminars, you know there are several key areas in the mentoring ministry where you don't have control. Yes, you can control things logistically, but you have no idea how many will show up at the Orientation Coffee or who will be mentors and mentees until you go into Prayer Day and let God do the matching.
You can't control how the M&M's relationships will turn out, or even if they'll continue meeting. Many of you have written to me about the miracles you have seen when you let God be in control. I would love to hear more of your "God stories" so please tell me what has happened when you realized things were "Out of your control!"
"He controls the course of world events."
Daniel 2:21 NLT

FEATURED BOOK OF THE MONTH
When a couple is struggling to have a baby, it feels like their life is out of control. As the topic of abortion has been in the news with the election, I know many childless couples, or those longing to adopt, feel the ache of empty arms. There's always comfort in knowing there are others who have gone before you and know exactly how you're feeling. Dear God, Why Can't I Have a Baby? follows the infertility stories of my daughter and stepdaughter along with over thirty other couples who share how God created their families, often in ways they didn't see coming.

Our testimony this month:
Hi Janet,
We are just about to the 1 1/2 month half-time refresher for our 3-month trial mentoring ministry first coffee.
With eight individuals signing up, the three of us who prayed over the profile cards initially thought it wouldn't take very long! It took an 8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. day, plus another hour the next day. It was difficult, but it was amazing how God worked it all out, and we were definitely in agreement and at peace with the match-ups.
Blessings,
Glenda

Mentoring Tip
If you're life seems out of control right now, find a mentor who has experienced what you're going through. She made it through and you will too, with God's help and her prayers.

"GRAMMIE'S CORNER"
We had a great time in Geneva, IL earlier this month visiting grandkids, Ari 16, and Nico who turned 13 while we were there. Days before we arrived, Nico was in pediatric ICU when his insulin pump malfunctioned. But after a couple days recuperating out of the hospital, he was back on the soccer field for practice even with a broken finger (soccer), after just recovering from a broken finger
on the other hand (
football) .
He never complains, gets back up, and back in the game . . . literally. What a special young man and we're so proud to call him our grandson. We could all take lessons from his never complaining, enthusiasm for life, and acceptance of the hand God has dealt him.
It had been a long time since Grampa Dave and I had sat in the freezing cold at a High School football game, but beautiful Ari is on the color guard team. What a joy to see her stepping and twirling with the band.
To top off a wonderful trip, our son surprised us and flew in from Colorado for Grampa Dave's birthday, which we also celebrated while there.
We are a family God has blended together through love for each other and love for Him.

Meet An Author
An Invitation To The Table
Embracing The Gift of Hospitality
Michelle is a fellow Leafwood Publisher Author and I was honored to endorse her latest book.
What inspired you to become a writer?
At a women's retreat in 2009, I felt God impress upon my heart to write a book. I had never written anything besides some poetry before that point, so being obedient to that call was overwhelming and way beyond my comfort zone. I'm glad I answered that call; it's been one of the best decisions of my life.
How do you balance being a wife and mother with all the other hats you wear?
Because I write full time, I designate 7-8 hours a day to my writing. But when the bus rounds the corner of our street, my work stops. I love my work, but my family comes first. I was called to be a wife and pastor's wife before I became a writer. Although it's tough sometimes, I try never to forget that.
What are your favorite topics to talk about when speaking?
I talk on an array of topics, including passing on a legacy of faith to the next generation, prayer, hospitality, simplified discipleship, leadership training and vision casting for your church or ministry.
Are there any words that you live by that you'd like to share with our readers?
Success is not about how many degrees on your wall, published books on your shelf or the money in your bank account-it is about being obedient to whatever God's call is on your life.
I have written two children's books, Mommy, Am I Strong?
and Daddy, Am I Beautiful?
that teach kids about self-esteem. My newest book An Invitation to the Table: Embracing the Gift of Hospitality
helps readers study the concept of hospitality and offers practical tips to incorporate hospitality into readers' daily lives.
You can purchase the book at
Family Christian Stores;
Lifeway; or
