DISSOLVED OXYGEN & WATER FLOW

The Jordan River Commission is excited to advance the next phase of an applied research project to evaluate the effects of modest adjustments in the management of water flows in the lower Jordan River in achieving dissolved oxygen (DO) improvements while also improving riparian and wetland habitat.

This project, initially led by the national non-profit River Network, attempts to explore the relationship between water flow and dissolved oxygen.  Commission has hired Cirrus Ecological Solutions, a local consulting firm, to assist with the planning, design and implementation of a series of flow management experiments in the lower Jordan River.

The project is funded and supported by the Utah Division of Water Quality.

RIVER-FRIENDLY RECOGNITION

The Jordan River Commission is pleased to announce its new River-Friendly recognition program for Communities and Developments within a 1/2-mile of the Jordan River.

This advisory program seeks to reward and encourage a collaborative, multi-stakeholder process that results in better plans, minimizes adverse impacts, and builds support for responsible river corridor planning and management.

To receive recognition, local governments must adopt an ordinance or pass a resolution committing to implement recommendations of the Best Practices for Riverfront Communities to receive a gold or silver level recognition.

Developments (including all restoration projects, parks, stormwater projects or residential or commercial developments) can be submitted for evaluation against a checklist based on the Best Practices document. Projects must meet a minimum number of criteria to be considered for recognition, and exemplary projects may receive the bronze, silver, gold or platinum level of recognition.

Congratulations the first award recipients:

Salt Lake County for its  GOLD River-Friendly Community recognition

Salt Lake City for its  GOLD River-Friendly Community recognition

Sandy  for its  SILVER  River-Friendly Community
recognition

About the Jordan River Commission

The Jordan River Commission was created by an interlocal cooperation agreement in August 2010. The Commission was created to implement the concepts and projects outlined in the Blueprint Jordan River, to serve as a technical resource to local communities, and to provide a forum for regional coordination of planning, restoration, and responsible development along the river corridor.
