Hideaki Hirai,
Conductor
Hideaki Hirai will conduct the U. S. premiere of his own Opera, "Princess from the Moon" on August 22, 2015 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the prestigious "NISEI WEEK JAPANESE FESTIVAL" in Los Angeles.
"Maestro Hirai is in full command...the conductor uses both hands and baton for emphasis. He catches the eye of musicians in the far corners and brings out their instrumental potential," praises Roberta on the Arts.
Highlights of HIDEAKI HIRAI's recent activities include the season inaugural concert of the New York Festival Orchestra as its Music Director at the Merkin Concert Hall in New York City on March 5, 2015. The program, titled "Mostly Beethoven Festival" featured the 7th Symphony and the "Emperor" Piano Concerto (Ivan Donchev, piano) as well as a special encore, the famous German lied, "Ich liebe dich" by Beethoven which Maestro Hirai arranged for chamber orchestra.
On May 5, Maestro HIRAI was featured in the 90-minute Italian radio show, "Classical Shock" on Radio Libera Tutti, which included an interview as well as live recorded excerpts from his New York Festival Orchestra concert in New York City. To listen the radio show CLICK HERE.
He will conduct the U. S. premiere of his own Opera, "KAGUYA-HIME"(Princess from the Moon) to be held on August 22 at the Aratani Theatre, Japanese American Cultural & Community Center in Los Angeles. It will commemorate the 75th anniversary of the prestigious "NISEI WEEK JAPANESE FESTIVAL". This opera has been performed, with tremendous success, in Salzburg, Prague, and Canberra as well as in many cities in Japan and has become one of the most popular and frequently performed Japanese operas. His other operas, "True Love of Komachi" and "The White Fox" are also widely performed in Japan. In June, the MAINICH NEWSPAPER (Japan) printed a front page article regarding Hirai's Opera, "THE WHITE FOX", which is based on the original English libreto by a legendary Japanese art master, Kakuzo (Tenshin) OKAKURA, well-known for his best-seller, "A BOOK OF TEA".
