BV Artists International is pleased to introduce the a new artist on our roster, the exceptionally talented pianist Ivan Donchev.  

  

" ...an artist gifted with extraordinary musical and instrumental skills." best describes IVAN DONCHEV by the well-known pianist Aldo Ciccolini, his former student., and who he shared a duet program that debuted at the Fenetrange Music Festival in France. 

 

BV Artists International is pleased to introduce this young Bulgarian pianist who recently made a sensational New York debut with The New York Festival Orchestra at Merkin Hall 

 

IVAN DONCHEV began his musical studies at the age of five in his native Bulgaria and made his concert debut with the Burgas Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of twelve.   In 1997 he was awarded "Talent of the Year" by the city of Burgas.  Donchev is a top prize winner of 19 awards including: Bulgaria ("Svetoslav Obretenov" 1994); Italy ("Citta  di Stresa", "Citta di Monopol?" 2000; "S. Fiorentino" 2004, "Societa  Umanitaria" in Milan); Ireland ("EMCY", Dublin, 1996); Romania, ("Carl Filtsch", 1997),  and, at the age of 16, the "Chopin Prize" by the "Chopin Society" in Darmstadt .

 

DONCHEV has performed in concerts in Bulgaria, Germany, US, UK, Italy, Romania, France, Slovakia, Ireland, Japan, South Korea.  As a brilliant international pianist, he has been described as a "refined and concentrated" (Qobuz Magazine, France), "full with temperament" (The Darmstatder Echo, Germany), and gifted with "impeccable technique and remarkable ability to excite" (Il Cittadino, Italy) More  press.

 

A resident of Rome, DONCHEV has been a guest artist with the Florence Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra Ico della Magna Grecia, Kronstadt Philharmoniker, Mozart Sinfonietta Chamber Orchestra, Oradea Philharmonic  and Razgrad Philharmonic, among others.   His many critically acclaimed recordings include the world premiere of Vito Palumbo's Quadro Sinfonico Concertante, as well as works of Tchaikovsky, Liszt and Beethoven. He performed in broadcasts for RAI 3, Radio France, Radio Classica, BG National Radio and TV. 

 

He earned a Masters Performance degree from the "Santa Cecilia" Conservatory of Music in Rome. He serves on the piano faculty at "Praeneste" School of Music in Rome and as a guest professor at "G.Spontini" Musical Insitute in Ascoli Piceno. IVAN has been a jury member in international competitions and regularly gives masterclasses in Asia and Europe.

Brooklyn Baroque


Midtown Concert at St. Bart's in Manhattan
 

Brooklyn Baroque had a busy spring, the highlights of which were a concert with Baroque dancer Caroline Copeland and several concerts with tenor Philip Anderson, including a Midtown Concert at St. Bart's in Manhattan. They also participated in two video projects, one featuring the bass-baritone Jonathan Woody in the aria "Schweig, augetuermtes Meer"(VIDEO) from Cantata BWV 81 and a choreographed video of an aria from Boismortier's cantata "Le Printemps" (Spring), featuring Caroline Copeland and soprano Marguerite Krull.(VIDEO)

 

Brooklyn Baroque's harpsichordist Rebecca Pechefsky and her duo partner Elaine Funaro premiered a new work for two harpsichords by Mark Janello at the recent Montreal meeting of the Historical Keyboard Society of North America.

The Stankov Ensemble opened their spring season with an concert at the International Chamber Music Days in Barth, Germany, under the direction of maestro Martin Panteleev (Conductor of Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra).

 

Ivo Stankov performed the World Premiere of Gheorghi Arnaoudov's concerto 'Phantasmagorias' for violin and orchestra with the Sofia Sinfonietta conducted by Linus Lerner.

 

Ivo's other engagements included: guest conductor, Westminster Philharmonic Orchestra and Lambeth Philharmonic Orchestra; jury member of the Whitgift International Music Competition with Huw Davis (Managing Director of Royal Philharmonic Orchestra), Guy Johnston (BBC Musician of the Year), Jessica Duchen (journalist for The Independent), and Ilian Garnetz (Winner of Tibor Varga International Violin Competition).

Spring of 2015 brought new professional ventures for BV Artists International Pianist Veselin Ninov. He was a member of the Jury Panel of the 3rd Annual LISMA Foundation Soloist Competition in New York, was invited by the Steinway Gallery of Long Island to demonstrate their 9 foot Concert Grand for the audiences of Nassau and Suffolk Counties as part of the Gallery's Steinway Performers Series, collaborated for the second year in a row with the Long Island Conservatory and the Concert Festival of New York for two chamber music performances in Merkin Hall at the Kaufman Center and the Bruno Walters Auditorium of Lincoln Center, NYC, and received an award of excellence in Music Pedagogy by Concert Festival.

 

In late spring, Ninov performed a recital in Valley Stream, NY, performing solo works by of Debussy and Chopin, gave a concert of chamber music with the Russian violinist Alexander Anisimov, featuring compositions by Vivaldi, Mozart and Schubert, and performed a chamber music recital with Violist Tonya Bibashka at the  Nassau County Museum of Art in Roslyn, NY performing works by Bach, Vieuxtemps and Rachmaninov.

  Hideaki Hirai will conduct the U. S. premiere of his own Opera, "Princess from the Moon" on August 22, 2015 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the prestigious "NISEI WEEK JAPANESE FESTIVAL" in Los Angeles.

"Maestro Hirai is in full command...the conductor uses both hands and baton for emphasis. He catches the eye of musicians in the far corners and brings out their instrumental potential," praises Roberta on the Arts.  

 

Highlights of HIDEAKI HIRAI's recent activities include the season inaugural concert of the New York Festival Orchestra as its Music Director at the Merkin Concert Hall in New York City on March 5, 2015. The program, titled "Mostly Beethoven Festival" featured the 7th Symphony and the "Emperor" Piano Concerto (Ivan Donchev, piano) as well as a special encore, the famous German lied, "Ich liebe dich" by Beethoven which Maestro Hirai arranged for chamber orchestra.  

 

On May 5, Maestro HIRAI was featured in the 90-minute Italian radio show, "Classical Shock" on Radio Libera Tutti, which included an interview as well as live recorded excerpts from his New York Festival Orchestra concert in New York City. To listen the radio show CLICK HERE.  

 

He will conduct the U. S. premiere of his own Opera, "KAGUYA-HIME"(Princess from the Moon) to be held on August 22 at the Aratani Theatre, Japanese American Cultural & Community Center in Los Angeles. It will commemorate the 75th anniversary of the prestigious "NISEI WEEK JAPANESE FESTIVAL". This opera has been performed, with tremendous success, in Salzburg, Prague, and Canberra as well as in many cities in Japan and has become one of the most popular and frequently performed Japanese operas. His other operas, "True Love of Komachi" and "The White Fox" are also widely performed in Japan. In June, the MAINICH NEWSPAPER (Japan) printed a front page article regarding Hirai's Opera, "THE WHITE FOX", which is based on the original English libreto by a legendary Japanese art master, Kakuzo (Tenshin) OKAKURA, well-known for his best-seller, "A BOOK OF TEA".

This spring, BVAI celebrates the performance of ANGELOVA's (in honor of International Women's Day)  Concertino for Piano and Chamber Orchestra during the opening event of the Stella Musica Festival, "Women in Music" performed by the brilliant pianist Katarzyna Musial and Ensemble Arkea with their conductor Dina Gilbert (she is also assistant conductor of MSO- Montreal Symphony Orchestra )". The Concertino is dedicated to ANGELOVA's renowned piano professor Regina Horowitz, the sister of the Great Russian pianist Vladimir Horowitz. The Canadian premiere took place in the Grand Inaugural Concert of Stella Music Festival. This work along with other compositions including "FESTIVAL OVERTURE", which was performed recently by the National Orchestra of Canada in the McIntyre Performing Arts Centre and conducted by Maestro Boris Brott, ,(VIDEO) will be printed in the Catalog of the Associate Composers of Quebec, www.cmcquebec.ca.

Octogenarian and esteemed composer Hampson Sisler had his "In the Wake of the Storm" performed by the Sinfonietta Sofia Orchestra in Sofia, Bulgaria on February 27, 2015. His other compositions have been heard by millions world-wide, making him one of the most popular American composers.

 

Sisler's latest piece "Exit Solar", concerto/suite for cello and orchestra, dedicated to the cellist Kalin Ivanov, will be performed during 2016-17. The piece is in 6 movements: "Beyond Sedna", II. "Quasar", III. "Pulsar", IV. "Black Hole", V. "Milky Way", VI.
