If you were hoping to make the KYSITE Fall Meeti
ng, sorry you just missed it. H
owever, it isn't too late to attend the Annual Meeting next week at Buffalo Trace. Please RSVP by November 1st. More information is provided below.
Here in the Bluegrass everyone is excited about hosting the Breeders' Cup World Championship at Keeneland for the first time. Two weeks ago we shared five facts about the Breeders' Cup. This week we thought we would share five facts about Keeneland.
1) Keeneland was founded in 1936 as a non-profit racing and auction organization.
2) Keeneland host two meets and four sales a year and have sold 77 horses that went on to win 83 Breeders' Cup World Championship races.
3) Keeneland was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1986. It is also home to one of the world's largest repositories of information and photographs related to Thoroughbred racing.
4) The first day of racing was October 15, 1936 and Myrtlewood won the feature race that day, the Keen Handicap.
5) Keeneland wasn't the first. From 1828 to 1933, horses raced at the Kentucky Association track near Race Street in downtown Lexington. The gates from the old track were saved. They featured the KA that is still used throughout Keeneland.
And in case you are wondering, I haven't forgotten about Halloween, which overlaps with the Breeders' Cup and UK vs. UT. Safe travels to all of you that may be trying to navigate Lexington traffic this weekend. For everyone else, be thankful.
