The 143rd running of the Kentucky Derby and the 101st running of the Indy 500 have come and gone. As I was watching the Indy 500 over the holiday weekend, I was reminded that two neighboring states host two of the world's largest single day events within the month of May. Being a transportation minded individual, I couldn't help but think about all the traffic these two events generate.
As I continued to ponder this thought, my view widened and I thought about the role Kentucky plays in the flow of people and goods year round. I think about UPS in Louisville and the recent news that Amazon is establishing a hub in northern Kentucky. Being so centrally located, our interstates, riverways, and airports play a critical role in our national transportation system. This presents a great challenge for us as transportation professionals. The industry is evolving, but the challenges never go away. To me, that is why organizations like ITE are so important. As transportation professionals, we must stay educated, continue to innovate and come together regularly to share ideas.
Continue to monitor the newsletter for announcements about upcoming events such as the summer golf outing, our fall technical meeting, and our annual meeting.
If anyone has any ideas on other potential activities that we could do as a section or even a way to get together socially please feel free to contact us! We are always open to your ideas.

Walt Disney World Is Looking To Start Testing Driverless Shuttles
Some could argue the monorail is the best ride in Walt Disney World. If reports are true, driverless shuttles could be competing for coolest ride in the "happiest place on earth". This is on top of a reported gondola system being built connecting multiple resorts to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios.
