KYSITE ANNUAL MEETING INFORMATION

We are excited to announce that this year's annual meeting will be at the Cardinal Club in Simpsonville, KY!  Earlier this year we sent out a questionnaire and we tried to take a couple things into consideration, one of which was to have the event on a Friday instead of a Thursday.  So this year's annual meeting will be held on Friday, November 9th. We are planning to do something  a little different than in year's past as we are going to have the fall technical session on the same day as the annual meeting.

Below is a rundown of the events:

When:  November 9th
Technical Session - 1:00PM - 4:00PM - 3 PDH's!
Annual Meeting Banquet - 5:30PM - 8:30PM

Where: The Cardinal Club - Simpsonville, KY

Who: All are welcome but there is a discount if you are an ITE member.
Technical Session Only - $30 ($35 if you are not a member)
Annual Banquet Only - $35 ($40 if you are not a member)
Technical Session and Annual Banquet - $60 ($70 if you are not a member)
Students: $10 for technical or Dinner; $20 for both.

What:  Attendance to the Annual Banquet will include food and a drink ticket and there will be an amazing silent auction with lots of great items to bid on.  And as always the proceeds from the silent auction will go to funding the annual KYSITE scholarship fund.

Additional information regarding the content of the technical session will be forthcoming.

We on the Board hope everyone has an amazing start to the Fall season (now that the rain has finally stopped!)

UK ITE Meeting

Several ITE members attended the recent University of Kentucky chapter meeting on September 19th.  This meeting had a great turnout of around 20 students; one of the most well attended meetings in years.  As a part of the meeting there was discussion on the possible transportation related career paths for the students, including private, public and research positions.  The UK chapter of ITE will have monthly meetings and it is a goal of KYSITE to have a group of professionals included in those meetings.

If anyone would like to volunteer to attend a monthly meeting (typically during lunchtime) or if there is a private entity that would like to sponsor lunch for the UK meeting p lease email our UK liaison, Erin Lammers at

KYSITE wants to continue it's involvement with the University of Kentucky and we would ideally like to create a stronger relationship with the University of Louisville and Western Kentucky University.

The meeting this past month was sponsored by the Gresham Smith office out of Louisville, KY so we want to give them a big thanks!

ITE Webinar: Collection, Analysis, and Use of Data to Improve Traffic Incident Management (TIM)

Kentucky ITE hosted a webinar on September 26th at LFUCG. We had a great turnout and gained new knowledge about data-driven improvements to TIM. Thanks to Kimley-Horn for sponsoring the event and providing refreshments!

Transportation in the News

An INRIX study has identified the five US corridors that could best accommodate autonomous trucks hauling freight: Interstate 5 from Vancouver, British Columbia, to Northern California; Interstate 95 from Jacksonville, Fla., to Miami; Interstate 75 from Valdosta, Ga., to Miami; Interstate 70 from Utah to Kansas; and Interstate 85 from Georgia to Greensboro, N.C. The corridors were rated based on congestion, incident rates, length and volume.

Place Making Projects

A project close to home! Owensboro's place-making initiative began in 2007 and has quickly transformed the downtown and waterfront of this western Kentucky city. The project's purpose was to encourage economic growth. To this end, engineers and planners created pedestrian-focused streets, bicycle paths, a public plaza, a new hotel and events center, and attractive living spaces. They have already seen an increase in commerce due to several citizens and businesses relocating to the new urban center.
