April 2019 News and Updates
Between April racing at Keeneland, the Derby Festival in Louisville, spring breaks, and the impending Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs, the end of April can be a busy time of year in the bluegrass.

Similarly, it has been a busy month here at KYSITE.

At the beginning of April, a group of members attended the SDITE annual meeting just outside of Washington DC where the traffic bowl team took home the grand prize for the first time in Kentucky's history! Adding to the traffic bowl team's success, the section also took home the 2nd place award for 2018 Outstanding Section.

The KYSITE spring meeting, which took place last week, was a joint meeting with the Ohio Section and was held in Cincinnati. Those in attendance got to see presentations on Amazon in the Northern Kentucky Area, the Cincinnati/Uber Mobility Partnership, Air Quality Transportation Conformity, and Safe Streets Academy were given. With a good turn out for this meeting, we hope to continue this partnership in the future.

2019 KYSITE Golf Outing

Mark your calendars for this year's upcoming KYSITE Golf Outing benefiting our student scholarship. The event is scheduled for Wednesday July 10th at Weissinger Hills Golf Course. Last year's golf outing helped raise enough money to support our $2,500 scholarship as well as take our traffic bowl team to the SDITE annual meeting. We hope everyone can join us for another successful event and be on the look out for an email with links to sign-up!
2019 SDITE & MCITE Conference Recap
A number of our Kentucky members made their way to Arlington, VA for the annual SDITE meeting. The meeting was filled with multiple opportunities for socializing and networking as well as professional development sessions spanning a range of transportation and traffic topics. Most excitingly, however, was the traffic bowl competition where the UK student chapter first got revenge on Auburn and then went on to win the whole competition, for the first time, and take home a $3000 scholarship. The team will go on to compete at the international meeting later this year.
2018 SDITE Outstanding Section Runner-Up Award

At the SDITE Annual meeting, the Kentucky Section was awarded the Outstanding Section 2nd Place Award for small sections. With such a diversity in size within the southern district, sections are divided into either the large section or small section category. Awards are given for the 2 most outstanding sections in each the large section and small section categories, and for 2018 the Kentucky Section was recognized as one of these outstanding sections for our work in creating useful technical meetings, putting together multiple events to benefit our student chapter and scholarship, and our growing student chapter. Let's keep this rolling through 2019!
Student Scholarship Opportunity
