The Changing Face of Transportation

Did you know that September 3rd is National Skyscraper Day?  That day was selected because it is Louis H. Sullivan's birthday (1856), an architect credited with the first skyscraper.  Because of Sullivan's accomplishments in design and construction at such a critical point in architectural history, he has sometimes been described as the "father" of the American skyscraper.  In all actuality, many architects had been building skyscrapers before or contemporarily with Sullivan.

So, do your part and honor construction workers and engineers who build the world's modern architectural wonders.

Sporting Clay Event

A good time was had by all that attended the KYSITE Sporting Clays Event.  The weather was excellent, BBQ was good and they clays were breaking (mostly).  Congratulations to Adam Kirk who won this years scored event.  He broke 66 clays with a pump action shotgun. WOW!  I would like to extend a big thank you to everyone who attended.  We appreciate your continued support of our organization, the scholarship fund and hope to see all of you at next years event.
Teen Distracted Driving in KY:  Your Chance to Help

Volunteers are needed!  The Kentuckians for Better Transportation Safety Committee and the Kentucky Section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers have been in discussion to conduct outreach activities in Fall 2015 related to Teen Distracted Driving.  Thanks to our friends at the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety , we now have a plan in place.  The KOHS will be setting up their new Distracted Driver Simulator at the 11th Annual Kentucky Construction Career Choice Council's Career Days .  This event attracts hundreds of teenagers from across the Commonwealth.  With teen drivers being our target for distracted driver education, we figured this was a very appropriate venue.

What:  Assist with the Distracted Driver Simulator at the 11th Annual K4C - Construction Career Days

When: September 29 / 30; 8:30 AM - 1:00 PM (each day)

Hi all!

After either leading or contributing to nearly 125 editions of the bi-weekly KYSITE newsletter over the course of nearly five years, I have decided that it's time for me to step away from the publication.  It has been an honor to provide this service to you and I appreciate the feedback (almost always positive) that you have provided over the years.

The intent was to make the newsletter readable and dependable - and I think we accomplished that goal by mixing in some nonsense right along with some very serious topics related to our industry.

The newsletter will remain in good hands with the current KYSITE officers.

Thanks again for the opportunity to serve.

I'll leave you with this video message to express my true feelings.  Enjoy!

Have You Seen That?

How's your day going?  Had a rough day?  Did you just hit the world's fastest man in the leg with your Segway?  Nope?  This guy did...

Thanks for your continued support of KYSITE!
