MAKING AN IMPACT

During the recent Day of Impact, students from Grades 10 and 11 had the chance to experience the inner workings of political campaigning. From door-knocking to media events, phone banking to canvassing, the students volunteered with various political parties throughout the day.

In Squamish, students attended a media event featuring John Rustad, where they also had the opportunity to hear from Yuri Fulmer. Students campaigned for Dallas Brodie, who was supported by Saul Kahn. In Yaletown, students hit the streets for canvassing and met Terry Jung, while others engaged in phone banking with Michelle Mollineaux in Richmond.

Feedback from our partners on the event has been especially valuable:

It's great to see so many students involved in the democratic process, to hear their questions, get them engaged, and meet with Terry. It couldn't have been easy to work across so many groups of teachers, students, and parents in order to make this happen. I do hope today gave value to these future leaders on the qualities that a candidate offers & the impact the students can make by getting involved -- and of course for them to have fun while doing so.

I wanted to thank you for encouraging your students to get involved in the democratic process this morning. Both myself and my campaign manager Ken Johnstone tried to make it both educational and productive which I believe was achieved. I was very impressed by the confidence and enthusiasm of those who attended. Thank you to your team for making this happen. Both Ken and I were in agreement if this is an example of the upcoming generation of young leaders, we feel very positive about the future.

KOL HAKAVOD, ZEV!

We are very proud of Grade 12 student Zev, whose work contributes to the wider community. He helped moderate the Jewish Town Hall meeting with candidates at Temple Sholom.

STUDENT VOTE BRINGS DEMOCRACY TO LIFE

Our Social Studies students hosted a Student Vote, an official Elections Education program that gives students a hands-on feel for the democratic process. Thanks to materials from Elections BC (or Elections Canada for federal elections), students dove into learning about the resources available, explored our school's specific riding, and experienced the full voting process—with real voting screens, ballot boxes, and even a registry to sign before casting their votes! Watch this space after the elections to see how our future voters weighed in!

HONOURING TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION

At our school-wide assembly, we united as a community to observe the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation. Through reflection, music, and learning, we acknowledged the significance of understanding Indigenous experiences, the legacy of residential schools, and the journey toward healing and reconciliation. This gathering was a meaningful reminder of our collective responsibility to promote understanding, respect, and justice for all. A heartfelt thank you to students Sydney, Mattea, Davey, Netta, and Patrick Oleman, an Uxwelmux (Oochh-well-moochh) healer from the St'at'imc (Stat-lee-um) Nation, for leading this impactful assembly.

Congratulations to the Senior Girls' Volleyball Team for their wins last week, boosting their record to 3-0 in GVISAA play! The team is displaying excellent sportsmanship, teamwork, and composure—and having a blast while improving their play together. (Missing from the photo: Hannah M.)

PAYING IT FORWARD

Eight dedicated students, Tomer, Benno, Yoav, Matthew, Levi, Grade 10, and Mia, Quinci, and Erin, Grade 11, spent their lunch break volunteering at the JFS Food Bank. They worked together to unload the truck and organize food packages for local families in need. With great teamwork and positive energy, they quickly sorted the supplies for distribution. What a display of compassion and the power of giving back!

CONNECTING WITH PARENTS: PAC MEETING

This month's PAC meeting was followed by a guest speaker, Alexandra Wilson, Team Lead, Parent Programs at BGC (Boys & Girls Club) bgcbc.ca. As our children transition into high school and adolescence, so do our roles as parents and caregivers. While these transitions come with opportunities and adventure, they may also come with challenges. Alexandra provided useful parent strategies to aid us while sharing how BGC has developed programs to help parents facing challenging times with their youth. Click here for information.

KEEPING CONNECTED WITH ALUMNI

Dr. Seth Goldsweig, Head of School, and Esther Mogyoros, Director of Development, paid a visit to King David alumni at UBC Hillel! Armed with some fun King David swag, we wanted to remind our alumni that they will always be members of the King David family and we are very proud of them! Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedules to meet with us.

Our star this week is Madi Barnett, a student who exemplifies resilience and a commitment to personal growth. Since Grade 8, Maddie has made incredible strides in her learning, showing how dedication and hard work can lead to success.

Maddie also challenged herself by participating in the Trek program, where she expanded her horizons and developed personal resilience through outdoor education and adventure. This experience has strengthened Maddie's leadership and character.

Last week, Maddie played a key role in leading our October 7th Commemoration assembly, handling the responsibility with a somber and respectful tone that left a lasting impact on everyone present.

We are so proud of Maddie’s journey and excited to see where her continued growth will take her. Keep shining, Maddie—you truly are a star!
