UNLEASHING KINDNESS: A WEEK OF HEART AND HARMONY

On Monday, we launched our much-anticipated Random Acts of Chesed (RAC) Week with an inspiring school-wide assembly, introducing this year’s Monsters Inc. theme. The message? We all have an inner "monster"—a source of strength and determination—that we can channel to spread kindness and make a positive impact. We were thrilled to have students from Vancouver Talmud Torah and Richmond Jewish Day School join us for the Kick-off Assembly and appreciated their help in making sandwiches and care packages for their Grade 12 hosts to deliver to residents on the Downtown Eastside.

Throughout the week, our students ventured across the Lower Mainland, volunteering with a variety of organizations and embodying the spirit of chesed (kindness) in action.

On Thursday evening, the Atrium came alive as staff, students, family members, friends, and alumni gathered for the annual RAC Benefit Concert. Our talented King David musicians from Grades 10-12 and staff delivered an unforgettable evening of music, performing an eclectic mix of pop, classic rock, R&B, and more. The vibrant energy and exceptional performances showcased the harmony and energy of RAC Week 2024!

We proudly honoured the legacy of alumnus Gabrielle Isserow z”l, whose memory continues to inspire RAC Week. The proceeds from this year’s concert will support SafeHeart, an organization in Israel supporting survivors of the music festival.

A heartfelt thank you goes to our phenomenal music teacher, Johnny Seguin, for his passion and dedication. His many hours of rehearsals with our students and staff made the RAC Benefit Concert an extraordinary success.

To Orly Naim, Jewish Life and Student Engagement Leader, our sincere gratitude for the countless hours spent setting up the volunteer opportunities, transportation, and student groups and creating the special atmosphere in the school throughout the week. Thank you!

Our PAC Parents ensured that the week ended with a delicious lunch for everyone. Todah Rabah!

To enjoy the magic of the week—watch the video above. Thank you for supporting our RAC Week efforts and helping us spread kindness near and far!

This week, we are proud to recognize the Jewish Life Service Students, whose dedication and hard work have been instrumental in enriching our school and community life. From planning Random Acts of Chesed Week to supporting school events, Kabbalat Shabbat, the October 7 Assembly, community involvement and fostering school spirit, these students lead by example, embodying kindness, teamwork, and personal responsibility.

Their efforts behind the scenes and in the spotlight demonstrate what it means to lead with compassion and commitment. By organizing activities and initiatives that bring us together, they remind us of the transformative power of chesed—loving-kindness—in creating a stronger, more connected community.

Thank you, Jewish Life Service Students, Zoe, Isabelle, Fina, Tom, Netanel, and Maayan, for your leadership, vision, and dedication to making a positive difference. Your contributions inspire us all and make our school a brighter place. Yeshar Koach!

You truly are our stars!
