As part of our optics unit in science, students recently took part in a hands-on eyeball dissection—a powerful way to explore how light and vision work by connecting physics and biology. Seeing the eye’s structure up close helped bring lessons on lenses, refraction, and image formation to life.
We understand and respect ethical concerns around dissection. Specimens are ethically sourced, participation is optional, and alternatives are always offered. Experiences like this spark curiosity and wonder, opening meaningful conversations about both the science and complexity of living systems.
| PEER-TO-PEER EDUCATION IN ACTION | As part of an initiative this year connecting students between École Jules-Verne (EJV) and King David, King David Grade 12 students, Tom G. and Fina S., spent 90 minutes guiding EJV’s Grade 11 History class through the Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre. As peer educators, our students helped create a space for meaningful learning and dialogue, fostering deeper understanding around the history and impact of the Holocaust. Through thoughtful discussion and reflection, the visit encouraged empathy, critical thinking, and the importance of standing up against hatred in all forms. This powerful experience highlighted the strength of peer-to-peer education and the shared responsibility of remembrance. |
This week’s Star Student is Maayan Greif! A strong student and dedicated community member, Maayan brings energy and commitment to all she does.
Outside the classroom, she shines as a competitive cheerleader, recently representing her team at the World’s in Florida. She also completed the Vancouver Half-Marathon in an impressive 2:12, placing in the top third of runners.
We are incredibly proud of Maayan’s accomplishments and the inspiring example she sets through her perseverance and passion. We wish her all the best in this exciting next chapter of her journey.

Mazal Tov to our Senior Girls Soccer Team for winning the Vancouver Sea-to-Sky Zone Championship!! The team's hard work, teamwork, and determination paid off – we're so proud of them! A big thank you to dedicated coaches, Cale MacDonald and Marie Vondracek, for your leadership and support throughout the season.
Next stop, Provincials!
| AN IMPRESSIVE TRACK DEBUT! | Mazal Tov to Grade 12 student Max K. on an outstanding first track season! He set a personal best with a 5.15m long jump, placing 7th in the Senior Boys’ category, and represented King David in the 400m at the LMISSAA League Finals. Kol Hakavod, Max! | This week marked the heartfelt opening of Ben Ben's Bar at Kvutzat Yavneh, dedicated in loving memory of alumnus Ben Mizrachi z”l. Created by friends and community to honour Ben’s vibrant spirit and deep love for Israel, the bar is more than a gathering place, it’s a tribute to the joy, friendship, and unforgettable energy he shared. May his memory inspire laughter, unity, and connection for all who raise a glass in his name. | CHOICES, CONSEQUENCES, AND COURAGE | |
We were honoured to welcome back longtime speaker and friend Kevin Brooks, who shared his powerful story with our Grade 11 and 12 students. While rooted in the consequences of drinking and driving, his message goes further, touching on drug use, personal responsibility, and the importance of friendship and family.
Kevin has been inspiring our students for over a decade, and we’re deeply grateful for the honesty and heart he brings every time he speaks.
| | ADVENTURE, CONNECTION AND OUTDOOR FUN! | |
Grade 9 and 10 students spent three unforgettable days at Keats Camp on beautiful Keats Island! With 95 students and 14 staff, the retreat was full of adventure, kayaking, archery, hiking, and team challenges on the low ropes course. Evenings brought outdoor games, trivia, and crowd-favourite karaoke.
Adding meaning to the fun, our amazing shinshiniot, Lihi and Or, led engaging Israel-themed activities that connected students to culture and community. It was a special time of laughter, learning, and lasting friendships.
