The School of Rock performance this week was an electrifying showcase of talent, energy, and pure rock ‘n’ roll spirit! The students lit up the stage with their incredible musical abilities, from powerful vocals to impressive instrumentals, bringing the story to life with passion and enthusiasm.
The audience was captivated, cheering and clapping along as the cast delivered a performance full of humour, heart, and high-energy numbers. None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of our dedicated teachers and staff, Clare Ripley, Johnny Seguin, Nicole Dumas, Noam Jacob, who guided and inspired our students every step of the way.
A huge thank you also goes to our incredible parents, whose encouragement, patience, and behind-the-scenes efforts helped make the night such a success. Your support means the world, and we are so grateful for all that you do!

Mazal Tov to Hilit Nurick, our amazing Foods teacher, and her dedicated Grade 10 students for bringing families together over a delicious Israeli meal! With the support of alumni Mitchell Neuman (Class of 2018) and Justine Balin (Class of 2017), along with Senior Foods students, they created an unforgettable Israeli-inspired evening. In the photo above, Justine (in her white jacket) and Mitchell looked right at home back in the Foods room! A heartfelt thank you to both for once again generously volunteering their time and talent.
A special thank you as well to Orly Naim for organizing the team of servers, who did a fantastic job ensuring the food reached tables with big smiles.
Adding to the vibrant Shuk atmosphere, the evening was set to the sounds of Israeli music.
With Hilit leading the charge, it took a full team of King David staff to make the event so special. Huge thanks to: Seth Goldsweig, Alex Monchamp, Esther Mogyoros, Michele Zychlinski, Jess Sabado, Justine Folk, Jeffrey Caspillo, Noni Mendoza, Tina Randhawa, Tanvir Bhambra, Debbie Appelbaum, Ivana Vuckovic, Johnny Seguin, and Rabbi Berger!

BIG WIN! SENIOR GIRLS' BASKETBALL TEAM ADVANCES TO TOP 12
A huge Mazal Tov to our Senior Girls' Basketball team for making school history by becoming the first King David Senior Girls' team to win a second-round Provincial game! They secured a thrilling victory in a closely contested game, where their impressive defence against two standout players was instrumental in their success. This win positions the Lions for a top-12 finish, marking a significant milestone for the school. Stay tuned for more updates!
LIONS ROAR TO AN EPIC END OF THE GAME SEASON
Earlier this week, our Lions played their hearts out in the VS2S Zone Finals, securing an incredible 2nd place finish! A huge Mazel Tov to Paul (Grade 12) and Eitan (Grade 11) for earning All-Star honours! The energy was electric, the teamwork was unstoppable, and we couldn’t be prouder!
Later in the week, the team fought hard and won the bronze medal in the GVISSA, with another All-Star recognition going to Paul. A special shoutout to our Grade 12 players (Levy, Noah and Paul), who played their final game for King David. As they prepare to graduate, we celebrate their dedication and leadership on and off the court. Go Lions!

THE UNBREAKABLE BOND BETWEEN HUMANS AND GUIDE DOGS
Our students had the incredible opportunity to hear from Achiya Klein, who was joined by his guide dog Joy. Achiya, a veteran of the IDF’s elite Yahalom unit, was severely wounded in 2013 while disabling a terror tunnel in Gaza, losing his vision in the explosion. But his story didn’t end there—it was just the beginning.
From developing cutting-edge defence solutions to competing as a Paralympic rower for Israel at the Tokyo 2021 Olympics, Achiya has pushed the limits of what’s possible. He continues to inspire others through adaptive sports, helping fellow wounded soldiers rediscover adventure through skiing.
Thank you, Atarah Derrick and the Israel Guide Dog Center, for facilitating the talk.

Our Grade 8 and 9 students are diving into the world of science communication by creating scientific posters! This engaging project allows them to demonstrate their ability to process and analyze data, apply their learning in innovative ways, and think critically about scientific information.
By designing posters, students explore the scientific method in action - identifying research questions, analyzing results, and presenting their findings visually. This hands-on experience strengthens their understanding of how data tells a story and prepares them to think like real scientists.
Beyond science, this project builds critical-thinking skills, particularly when interpreting graphs and data. In today’s world, where information is everywhere, the ability to analyze, question, and draw conclusions from data is more important than ever. Whether reading a weather chart, a medical study, or an environmental report, these skills will help students make informed decisions and navigate the complexities of the modern world.
We can’t wait to see their creativity and analytical thinking come to life in their posters!

BALANCING MATH AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Around 50 students from Grades 9-11 participated in the Pascal, Cayley and Femat Math Contest, with many starting the test early to assist in the Foods class for Lion's Den preparation. Balancing academic challenges with community involvement shows their strong work ethic!
Last week, our Green Club attended the ISABC Youth Environmental Sustainability Conference at UBC! This incredible event, hosted by ISABC, UBC Sustainability Hub, and MetroVan, brought together students from 27 schools across Southern BC to explore innovative ways to take action for our planet. Our students left feeling inspired, empowered, and ready to make a difference!
Students in Physics, Science, and English classes had the opportunity to hear from Benyamin Cohen, an established author, news editor, and the social media manager of Einstein's social media account. Cohen was visiting Vancouver to attend the Jewish Book Festival and stopped by King David to share a myriad of ways the Nobel Prize winner's influence is still with us, giving an in-depth and often hilarious look at the world's favourite genius. He shared the talk on Einstein's Instagram account, with 20 million followers!
