PRESENTING COMMUNITY SOLUTIONS

A select group of English 12 students had the special opportunity to present at the Jewish Federation's staff meeting. Their task was to identify a pressing issue within their community and develop an actionable plan to address it. Ido B. highlighted the importance of fostering connections between Jewish and Arab children in Israel, while Ziv D. and Zoe C. proposed strategies to combat antisemitism in Vancouver by advocating for changes to the BC curriculum. The students delivered their presentations with exceptional skill and impact.

CULTIVATING SCIENTIFIC INQUIRY

To practice their questioning and predicting scientific skills, Mrs. Bogner's Science 9 class explored various phenomena related to chemical reactions, including instant cold packs, the changing colours of Bunsen burner flames, and mold growth (a fan favourite!). The aspiring scientists then collaborated in teams to make observations, identify areas of curiosity, and formulate scientific questions. These essential skills will be valuable as Science 10 students continue to develop their scientific competencies and learn how to transform their testable questions into experiments!

COLLABORATIVE LEARNING

This week, the Grade 8 students wrapped up their lesson on The Ten Commandments with an interactive and engaging activity. Each chevruta (pair) delved deeply into one specific commandment to become experts. We then held a "donut discussion," where pairs took turns teaching their chosen commandment to another pair before rotating to learn and teach another.

During this activity, students actively embraced the roles of listeners, learners, and teachers. They honed their communication and critical thinking skills, discussing and rationalizing how these timeless principles remain relevant in today's world.

MAKING TIME FOR KINDNESS

Despite their busy school schedules, students take time during lunch to volunteer at the Jewish Food Bank, demonstrating that there's always time to help others..

WINTER ADVENTURES

Cypress Mountain invited PHE 10 students to embark on a winter wonderland adventure. They experienced the thrill of snowshoeing while gaining insights into navigating winter terrain.
