STANDING TOGETHER IN SORROW AND SOLIDARITY

On Thursday morning, we gathered in sorrow and remembrance, mourning the lives of the hostages cruelly taken from us and returned to Israel overnight. We honored their memory, ensuring their stories continue to be told. Among them was Oded Lifshitz, an 84-year-old peace activist and journalist devoted to helping others and advocating for coexistence. Even in captivity, his kindness and resilience never wavered. We extend our deepest condolences to Netta and his family.

We also remembered Shiri Bibas, a devoted mother, and her little boys, Ariel and Kfir, the youngest hostages of October 7. Their absence remains a deep wound. Yarden Bibas, Shiri’s husband, was released nearly three weeks ago, holding onto hope—Tikvah—that his family might return. Later in the day, we learned that Shiri was not among those returned, adding to the ongoing pain and trauma.

As we stood together in silence, we mourned, prayed for Am Yisrael, and recited Tehillim in their honour, reaffirming that even in grief, we hold onto faith. We prayed for those still in captivity, hoping for their safe release, and sang Acheinu in unity. Concluding with Hatikvah, we reaffirmed our resilience and unwavering hope, standing strong together. Orange ribbons were offered as a symbol of support.

HONOURING THE MEMORY OF ODED LIFSHITZ Z'L

Our school community extends our heartfelt sympathy to the Mizrahi family on the heartbreaking loss of their beloved uncle. We stand with Ruti, Noy (Class of 2014), Almog (Class of 2017), Ben (Class of 2021) and Netta (Grade 12) during this painful time, holding them in our thoughts and prayers.

May Oded’s memory be a blessing, and may the family find comfort in the love and support of our community.

CELEBRATING 20 YEARS WITH ALUMNI

On Thursday evening, King David alumni gathered at the Regal Beagle to celebrate 20 years on Willow Street, filling the venue with laughter, nostalgia, and reconnections. Adding to the excitement, alumni had the special opportunity to reconnect with three Heads of School—Perry Seidelman, Russ Klein, Seth Goldsweig along with Alex Monchamp, Rabbi Berger and Jess Sabado.

Thank you to the Barnett Family for facilitating the venue.

"The 20-year reunion was the perfect opportunity to reconnect with old classmates and engage in unexpected conversations with people from other grades. It was heartwarming to watch others reconnect and I felt a sense of community being there to celebrate this milestone.

In tough times like these, it's more important than ever for us to come together and take pride in being part of this growing community. Thank you, Esther, for organizing such a wonderful event."

~ Elle Poirier, Class of 2017

"I had a fantastic time at the King David Alumni reunion, reconnecting with old friends and reminiscing about great memories. It was amazing to see how much everyone has accomplished while still sharing that same sense of community we had back in school.

The event was well attended, filled with laughter, and a great reminder of the strong bonds we built over the years. Looking forward to the next one!"

DESIGN, TEST, REFINE: PHYSICS IN ACTION

To deepen their understanding of projectile motion, Physics 11 students engaged in a hands-on design challenge, emphasizing the value of process in the design cycle. Through trial and error, they learned from mistakes, refining their ideas by thinking critically and applying their knowledge of physics concepts. Students were tasked with designing a ball launcher capable of achieving accurate and predictable results. A variety of homemade devices were constructed, each showcasing creativity and innovation. Congratulations to all on their inventive designs and successful outcomes!

SPAGHETTI, GLUE AND PHYSICS TOO!

In Physics 12, our class was assigned the spaghetti bridge competition. We were to do this in pairs and build a bridge out of just spaghetti, using hot glue! This project taught me about tension, compression, and how to distribute weight effectively. You learn which shapes are stronger, like triangles, squares, and even X’s. It also introduces you to the engineering design process, focusing on testing and improving our designs using physics principles. Overall, this was a very fun project and was a good way to be hands-on during physics! Thank you, Mr.Metcalfe!

MAZAL TOV, LEVI!

Mazal Tov to Levi Moskovitz on his appointment as Grand Aleph Gizbor on the 101st Grand Board of the Aleph Zadik Aleph and the 81st International Board of the B’nai B’rith Girls! This incredible achievement is a testament to Levi’s dedication, leadership, and passion for our Jewish community.

His father, Rabbi Dan, shared heartfelt words: "Mazel Tov to the whole board, kvelling rights to their families. Special Yasher Koach to our son Levi. You carry on a family legacy, but one that is entirely and rightly your own. Wishing Levi and the entire board much success in the year ahead!"

This week, we are excited to spotlight Maya Koenigbaur, a Grade 10 student who models respect and kindness in every facet of her life. Always ready to lend a hand, Maya is not only helpful to her classmates but also serious about her studies, setting an inspiring example for all of us.

Maya has always been a quiet and thoughtful presence, but this year, she has truly found her voice. With growing confidence, she now speaks up to share her strong sense of right and wrong, standing by her values with clarity and conviction. It has been inspiring to see her step forward, express her thoughts, and make her voice heard in meaningful ways. Her journey is a beautiful reminder that sometimes, the quietest voices have the most powerful things to say.

Outside of the classroom, Maya is a competitive gymnast. Her hard work and dedication recently led her to a significant achievement—she placed first in her clubs routine at the Queen of Hearts tournament in Vernon. This victory not only underscores her athletic prowess but also marks a milestone in her blossoming journey as a leader in her sport.

We are incredibly proud to have Maya as one of our stars. Her blend of academic dedication, athletic talent, and growing leadership inspires us all. We look forward to seeing her continue to shine, both on the mat and in every aspect of life!
