Leelanau Montessori at Leo Creek Preserve

We would like to request your participation in this  wonderful opportunity offered our school. The Leo Creek Preserve is a nonprofit organization that owns a 9-are parcel alongside Leelanau Trail in the village of Suttons Bay.  It is being developed as an outdoor ecological and agricultural  education center for the community and its visitors.

Leelanau Montessori has been asked to build a Children's Permaculture Garden this spring on the preserve. This land is  very special to many of the staff and children of the school because we have spent time creek side and in the woodlands nearby for many years.  It is a partnership project that includes Upper EL and Primary children who will walk to the land every Friday in the spring.  You can help by volunteering your time, donating or lending tools, providing supervision or support Fridays from 9-11:30. We will need wheelbarrows either donated or on loan for the duration of the project.  We hope to assign at least 2 parents every week to supervise, support and work alongside the children.  Please contact Emma or Arden if you plan to participate. Thank you for your help.  We will continue to update you on ways you may support our work together at Leo Creek Preserve.  We intend to complete the project in June and will ask the children to help outside school hours for planting the frost sensitive plants. Leelanau Montessori feels honored to be taking part in such a special grassroots project and aiding in the beginning stages of its development.
 
A Note From Beth!

Happy Spring Break!  I will be out of the office the week following Spring Break (until April 10). This means texts or emails that are sent to me the week we come back from Spring Break will not make it to the school.  If you have any needs that need to be addressed please call the main office directly at

Open Enrollment

If you have any friends or family that may be interested in Leelanau Montessori for their children, please have them contact the office to schedule a tour and observation.  Word of mouth is our best advertisement!  Thank you.    

Open Enrollment Schedule:  
2nd Monday in March - Open application period (March 13th)
4th Friday in March - Close application period (March 31st)
4th Friday in May - Within five (5) business days in advance of the lottery, the school will communicate the time, date and location of the lottery with caretakers of applicants (May 26th) 
1st Friday in June - Lottery Day The following Tuesday after the lottery- Caretakers of accepted applicants notified with offer of enrollment within one week from receiving notification- Caretaker deadline to accept offer of enrollment (June 2nd)
3rd Friday in July - Caretaker deadline to complete enrollment tasks of accepted applicants (July 21st)

A Letter From Sprouts

Hello,
Feeling very blessed by all of our families here at Leelanau Montessori. I truly enjoyed the child centered conferences,  what a joy to see these little sprouts sharing their love of our environment  with you. Realizing that my time spent with your children is in evolution as they grow out of Sprouts and into new environments. I would like you to know that I receive such joy at having had this special time to witness these children blossom. 
       
Also thank all of you for sharing these gems with me, allowing me to learn and live the joy of these lovelies. I am honored and grateful for the opportunities that  have been bestowed upon me while being employed here at our wonderful school. I wake up everyday with the joy of making a life while doing what I love. (The snow days can make me as giddy as a school kid too! Getting to spend them with my own kiddos!)
        
While I am looking forward to Summer days I will hold all of my school buddies close to my h eart, awaiting September for new beginnings. Remember that these days/years past way to quickly. Get out there and play with the children! Enjoy Spring break:)
