FLYING HIGH DOGS- SUMMER READING PROGRAM KICK-OFF EVENT

Back Field Behind the Library

Join us on the lawn behind the library for an amazing show from four of the most athletic Border Collies on the planet. They’ll perform with Mike Piazza, multiple world finalist and world record holder in K-9 Frisbee and the current #1 Professional K-9 frisbee performer in the world!

There will be a variety of frisbee stunts and other entertaining tricks during the performance and lots of audience participation and fun for people of all ages.

Attendees will get a free summer reading giveaway bag from the library and vendors will be on hand with various treats for sale!

NOTES FROM THE CHILDREN'S ROOM
PROGRAM OVERVIEW:  We have 2 different ways for you and your family to participate in our Summer Reading Program- as a Virtual Beanstacker or a Paper Logger! For both, incentives are given for time spent reading- 1 raffle ticket for every 60 minutes. Tickets are then used to enter drawings for 1 of 6 great Book Bag Prizes! Activities will be offered on Mondays and Wednesdays- check the library calendar here for details.


BEANSTACK USERS:
Beanstack is easy to use and available both online and as a mobile app. Get started by visiting our Lunenburg Library Beanstack website to create your account.

PAPER LOGGERS: FOR THOSE FAMILIES WHO HAVE CHALLENGES WITH COMPUTER ACCESS OR ARE CHOOSING TO BE TECHNOLOGY FREE FOR NOW:
Starting Monday June 21st, you can stop by the library to register and pick up SRP information. You can also contact Miss Debbie via email dlaffond@cwmars.org or phone (978 582-4140 x 17) and we can arrange for you to pick up a packet which will include information about the program and copies of reading logs.
 
Both groups have the same access to all programs, reading and active challenges, and reading incentive raffle tickets for the same great prizes- they are just different formats.

Starting Monday, June 21st, stop by the library any time between 10:00-5:00 to register for summer reading and pick up information about all the cool stuff we have going on this summer here at the library and collect your first button! There are also reading challenges for you for the week. If you complete the challenge- you earn a button! You can stop by daily to pick up your earned button or wait until Thursday and collect them all! Good luck!
CURIOUS CREATURES ANIMAL VISIT

Get ready for Curious Creatures to visit outside on our patio with 10-12 of their exotic animals from all over the world. From the wonderful Curious Creatures staff- 
“ Are you excited to learn some fun facts about each creature? You may be surprised to learn who can not get wet...who likes to eat crickets... and whose eyes are on the sides! This program will include some mammals such as a rabbit and chinchilla , as well as a baby alligator and snake along with so many others. 
Thank you for inviting us, we are happy to share our love of these animals with all of you!”

Scavenger Hunt Kick-Off at Peabody Conservation Area

Peabody Conservation Area consists of three-quarters of a mile worth of trails that are a part of the North County Land Trust. Hiking trails can be accessed across the road from the parking lot for the Lane Forest on the eastern side of Holman Street.

Meet Miss Debbie at 11:00 on Monday, July 26th for the start of the forest animal scavenger hunt! The list and map will also be available for pickup at the library any time this week for you to do the hunt on your own schedule.
Jungle Animals Story Time and Watercolor Silhouettes

Join us on the patio of the library as we celebrate the end of our fantastic summer reading program for 2021! Kosmic Kelley will be on hand to present a spectacular science program which will include all of the best experiments, busy rainbow volcanoes, bouncing bubbles, 'Albert Eggstein' and more!

After the program, Beanstackers and Paper Loggers make sure to log in all your reading hours and log your raffle ticket choices or collect raffle tickets to put in the ticket holders. You have until August 7th to turn in all your hours.

While you're attending the show, don't forget to get your end of summer reading frozen treat!

The Whalemobile's Tale of the Humpback Whale's Tail

3D Papercraft Animals Take Home Craft Kits!
Starting Monday, July 19th

Take Home Kit


It's time to get crafty with these take home kits for you to build on your own! You can choose to either make a baby unicorn or a sleeping fox in a tree ring.
Each kit will come with instructions and the template printed out on craft paper. You'll need scissors and something to connect the pieces together- I recommend having both a glue stick and double sided tape handy. These kits are like building a 3D puzzle so they'll take time and close attention to detail.

Registration is required. Open to grades 6-12 (ages 12-18). If you're signing someone else up, please use the participant's name and age when registering. Click here to register.

Kits will be available for pick up starting on Monday, July 19th, we'll send out a reminder email once kits are ready.
Make Your Own Felted Hedgehog!

Hang out with Pop Up Art School (virtually) and create your own felted hedgehog!

We'll notify you when your kits are ready to be picked up at the library, they'll include most of the supplies needed to complete this craft. Kits do not come with instructions, so you'll need to attend the Zoom event to complete this craft.

Note: This is an online event via Zoom. An invite will be sent out at least one hour before the program to the email given at registration.
DIY Elephant Succulent Planter Take Home Craft Kits
Starting August 2nd
Grades 6-12
Take Home Kit

This take home craft kit comes with everything you'll need! Each kit includes a ceramic elephant planter, soil, and mini succulent plant. It also comes with paint and a paint brush for you to decorate the planter!
