mine-to-magnet objective

(2025 / Edition 4)

FISHERS, Ind. (Sept. 10, 2025) - We are proud to announce that the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) has awarded ReElement Technologies a contract to boost rare earth refining capacity in support of national defense priorities.

The award addresses the challenges of sourcing allied raw material, increasing domestic critical mineral separation and purification capabilities, and establishing a reliable industrial base of rare earth minerals.

Funded through the DOD’s Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Industrial Base Policy / Industrial Base Analysis and Sustainment Program, the award supports White House and Secretary of Defense priorities in developing a critical minerals and rare earth industry in the United States by setting up a fully allied and domestic rare earth purification supply chain.

ReElement’s modular, multi-mineral refining platform stands as the only scalable U.S.-based solution economically separating and purifying both heavy and light rare earth elements.

Why It Matters

  • By processing diverse feedstocks - including ores, recycled magnets, and manufacturing waste - at our scalable Noblesville and Marion, IN, facilities, ReElement is supporting presidential executive orders on mineral independence and the Department of Defense’s 2027 mine-to-magnet objective.

  • This cost-effective, eco-friendly approach strengthens domestic production capacity, enhances national security, and meets the growing REE demand in defense, electric vehicles, and renewable energy applications.

  • ReElement’s innovative refining methods reduce capital costs, operating expenses, chemical usage, and environmental impact while improving efficiency and scalability.

  • This project will refine REEs with high purity and environmental efficiency, strengthening the domestic industrial base by reducing reliance on foreign processing.

Our 42-acre refining campus in Marion, IN, has the capability to supply a majority - if not all - of the rare earth and critical minerals required by the defense industry through a cost-competitive, scalable platform powered by our patented technologies.

Building Momentum Holistically

Recent agreements with partners such as Vulcan Elements, Impossible Metals Inc., Principal Mineral, and one of our supplier affiliates, Electrified Materials, highlight our role as a first mover in reshoring and redefining this industry.

We are not just refining minerals. We are refining the way the world thinks about supply chains, sustainability, and sovereignty - taking a holistic view. To paint a picture of our vision, we include a few recent examples of our growing, innovative supply chain network.

For inputs, Electrified Materials has developed a novel recycling platform for high value e-waste and hard drives to extract rare earth elements from everyday e-waste - including speakers, power tools, and hard drives, even those previously shredded during data destruction. This vertically integrated solution helps us meet surging demand for rare earth oxides from U.S. magnet and defense manufacturers.

Our joint effort with Impossible Metals aims to create a sustainable domestic supply chain by separating and refining rare earth and critical minerals from deep sea nodules. (Continued in next column.)

For Outputs, delivering for manufacturers.

Our recent agreement with Principal Mineral will allow us to integrate separation, fluoride production, and metallization as a singular process under one roof.

This strategic alliance will co-locate full mid-stream operations at one of several possible sites, including ReElement's existing Marion, IN, supersite, and Principal Mineral's critical minerals campus in Camden, SC, with other locations under review.

Taking it to the next level, our agreement to supply Vulcan Elements with rare earth oxides over the long-term enables domestic magnet production. This strategic partnership with a market leader brings together ReElement’s advanced refining capabilities and magnet recycling with Vulcan Elements’ rare earth magnet manufacturing capability to establish a cost-effective and scalable rare earth supply chain entirely within the United States.
