MARSH HARBOUR INN..................BALD HEAD ISLAND NC.....................MARCH 2018

As the season changes, we want to let you know about the upcoming activities at Marsh Harbour Inn.
We hope this newsletter is useful in planning your next visit and staying in touch. We look forward to seeing you soon. Safe travels.
Message from the President

On behalf of your Board we wish all a very peaceful and reflective Easter Holiday.

Ballots have been mailed; please take a moment and cast your vote.
If you have not received your ballot please contact Cathie Ostrowski:
Once they are returned we will seat your 2018 board and begin engaging on what will be an active and pivotal year for our Inn.

We are encouraged by the many suggestions and offers to be a part of the process.
With this energy and budgeted resource’s your team will prioritize and complete as many items on our 2018 agenda as possible. We may re-brand our GM couple the MHI Energizing Bunnies; how appropriate for this time of year and the results they are delivering. Mike Kirk, summed it up best after his visit; fell in love with place all over again. Hope you can connect w/your Inn and do the same.

If you have not completed the survey that was sent out last week, please take a few minutes to share your feedback and thoughts. We will be using this to help guide our plan for this year and will measure the results next year.

Look forward to hearing from you at any time, please take five minutes and enjoy the updates and great content below..

Pinnacle Suite Owners and
New Co-Managers for MHI
You first heard it from Tim in his HOA meeting email Friday, but again we want to congratulate our staff for achieving a 100% health inspection score for the Inn and 99% on the kitchen. During the Inn inspection, the Health Inspector picks, at random, one room on each of the 3 floors and goes through them with a fine-tooth comb. Only once in our 22 years has the Inn received a perfect score. We’d like to say a ‘sign of the times’.

Per our commitment at the annual Board meeting, we are working closely to meet our accepted budget, notably payroll, which we met in January and February. We are also working with a variety of contractors to get accurate estimates to repair the right side of the roof and possible window replacements. These costs will be shared in more detail as we get into May.

The main focus right now is maintenance. With the help of Board member Mike Kirk, we are performing a ‘triage’ of sorts, doing walk throughs and targeting all the obvious signs of need. This includes wood rot on exterior siding and windows, painting, caulking, leaking facets, screens and sloppy appearances. Jomig is currently power washing the entire exterior with bleach. He has also helped us with much of the carpentry work which we are doing ourselves.

Spring is just around the corner and we look forward to your next visit. Greetings from the Island.

Lynn & Sophia Derrick

We will continue to have monthly news letters this year to keep you closely posted on the progress of the Inn. Many of you have volunteered to help and we are keeping track of your resumes! We are in immediate need of electrician support to make ready the charging stations for the carts. Any help appreciated. We are also putting an inventory of paint in the cart shed, stored properly and labeled such as – fence, exterior white, beige – so if you ever want to play Tom Sawyer, there are always fences to be painted. We’ve also expanded our yard tools with battery charged blowers and weed eaters making for ‘easy to use’ if you feel the need. We also continue to build on our attic workshop with tools and electric/plumbing inventory.
In the last four weeks we have replaced over 170 board feet of cypress cedar. As of yesterdays walk through, we are proud to say you can sit in the central common area and see no visible wood rot or rusted nails. We are also replacing all the screens on the porch and beginning to paint the porch ceilings with our trademark March Harbour teal color.
We are also beginning to work on the individual suites. The Pinnacle floors were finally sanded and repaired with new rugs added. We are hoping to work with the Suite/Room leaders to identify key needs for improvement. This will take time; we like to say ‘let’s eat the elephant one toe at a time’ !

The front porch now pops with a vibrant look, wanting you to enjoy Happy Hour. Sophia, Christie and Sarah got together and selected all new exterior pillows with incredible colors. Watch soon for new beach décor signage.

You also heard Friday that we are finally moving ahead with new leased carts. This was much more of an effort than many realize. After agreeing to move forward with this project we found the difficulties in getting credit approval (knowing we have no borrowing history and basically exist as a non-profit). With the help of Dan McConnell, Owner of Always Ready Golf Carts, and our Treasurer, Frank Antunez, we labored through this process with Wells Fargo. Thirteen carts were ordered last Friday and should be here in 5 weeks. Below is a picture of the color and style of the carts which will be given MHI logos when they arrive. We plan to let everyone know the exact date of arrival in case you want to join in the champagne toasts and introductory first rides.

I want to share my appreciation for our staff for all of their hard work, great attitudes and dedication to making the Marsh Harbour Inn the best that it can be. The work is proven in the numbers. A score of 100% on the lodging, and 99% on the kitchen was recently earned by our team.

We greatly appreciate all the LOVE, we got from Facebook and Instagram. The support that we get from everyone is much appreciated. It's what will always give us the motivation to continue our standards and improve in any way.

Last but not least a huge appreciation goes to Lynn and Sophia Derrick , for their hard work and NON STOP love and attention for the Inn and the staff.
We now have dog place mats for the dog bowls. We were also able to recycle some of the old outdoor cushions and make them into doggie beds!!!
