First a hello and best wishes as we start the 2018 year. We just got back yesterday from our January visit to the Inn and have a long list of action items. We were working on everything from learning the daily routines of Christie and Sarah to fixing the ice maker. This might be a longer than normal newsletter, but we promised when we took this role as co-managers that we would be very transparent as to the operations and updates at the Inn. We are taking this role as a couple so both of us are getting intimately involved with the day to day operations. As owners we want to ensure you that it’s OUR investment that we are planning to protect and improve. Even more important are the people that we have running our Inn every day, in season and off season. It can turn from a boring evening to a midnight cart emergency at a moment’s notice. We have a regular cadence call during the week with Christie to keep us informed on everything that needs attention. We will support the staff and give them the long-term support they need. 

Even though we are not ‘moving’ to BHI, we will be at the Inn each month with some extended stays. Our plan is to provide a newsletter after each of our stays to keep you updated.

If you haven’t noticed there’s been a lot of noticeable improvements around the Inn over the past few months from new custom entrance mats and flags to shampoo dispensers in the baths and new luxurious towels and sheets on our beds! We had the chance to install the final Barrington outdoor lights on the 2 nd floor this week. It surprised us at just how bad shape the existing lights were. The new lights are from Lowes and have a traditional design with a ‘vintage’ style bulb. They really look good especially in the evening. In addition, we have ‘string lights’ for added aesthetics in the center court and the screen porch. We just need to take care of them now.
Here’s another nice addition to our outdoor cooking grills. If you’ve never tried a Traeger Grill, we highly suggest it. ( ) First, you can use it on the porch so even in the rain you can grill. Second, it’s very easy to use. It’s electric. You simply flip the on/off switch then turn the dial to ‘smoke’ to let it warm up. Then you dial to the temperature you want. On the left side you add wood pellets which act as the coals. We have a variety of pellet flavors in bags located inside the closet in the living room. We did steaks at 375 and casseroles at 250. You can use it like a grill or a stove. Easy clean up too. Google some recipes and try it on your next visit. 

Another change and surprise to many of you was the relocation of your bins to the outside storage shed. This was much needed as we were starting a hazard with the growing number of bins in the attic. Christie and team spent a lot of physical effort making the move and getting them organized. In the attic we have established a ‘workshop’ where we now have all our maintenance equipment and supplies. We will improve on this area but have established a single location for paint, plumbing supplies and parts, fire alarms, lights and filters, maintenance equipment from saws to drills and electrical parts. This week we spent a lot of time working in and out of this space and it was great. Easy to find what we needed. You are welcome to use this space as needed to fix things if you have the need and ability. In terms of maintenance we have a good working list and will be showing improvements each month. We fixed wood rot on the kitchen windows, painted rooms, installed lights and fixed plumbing this week. We also had a water pipe burst due to the freeze which we closed off.
Now here’s a BIG improvement. The new Spectrum Cable system has been installed in the Inn. We now have cable ‘boxes’ which are hung behind the TV sets. As a result, you’ve got two controllers now (just like home!). Some of you may have trouble on your first sign on but be patient. More channels, crystal clear and a great guide. We also noticed the internet speed was much improved and you were not dropped. This is a great new service at no additional cost.
You want bikes, we got bikes. They were shipped to the BHI post office and we put them all together over the cold weekend. Rather than keep them out front we’ve stored them in the golf shed for now. We know they will all rust but we’re going to try and keep them more lubricated than in years past. The HOA Board did a great job of shopping for some great prices. Also, thanks to many owners who also donated to this purchase. FYI we now have an easy-to-use battery powered tire inflator located in the closet in the entrance hall. 
You will also notice a lot of landscaping. This started several months ago as we removed all the old large bushes. The dog park has been much improved with winter plants. We removed the ends of the front fence making easier access for servicing. We’ve also purchased a variety of landscaping equipment which are now located and hung in the golf cart shed. This includes blowers (battery charged), shovels, rakes and hedge trimmers. Believe it or not, we didn’t have these available at the Inn until now. We’ve also purchased an electric-start power washer. This will give us the ability to keep mold off the Inn, walk ways cleaned and decks washed. A nice tool for us.

This was the first year with a new Christmas tree that took minutes to put up, and no fishing line was needed!!

 A special thanks to the Ostrowskis for joining in and helping the Inn get into the Christmas spirit. Cathie and Paul’s daughters along with my daughters decorated the tree beautifully. They even put the Polar Express train set together.

Santa came early with the bikes…...A huge thank you for those!

The picture of the Inn below was taken on the Saturday after the winter storm and it was still frozen. The ice came in on Wednesday night and by Thursday morning we were covered. We did get a sprinkle of snow here and there. By Monday morning it was all gone!! We are happy to report there were no inside leaks!!

Your Dues are Due
Thanks to all that are current on all dues and to those owners that have already made their 2018 Q1 dues payments. We are in the process of closing fiscal 2017 and as you know we were able to manage cash requirements for the year within collected dues, including the on-time payment of our largest liability related to property tax for the year. In the coming weeks, and as a result of improvements in processes related to dues payments and ownership records, we will gladly issue summary tax payment information for each owner of record in 2017. We will send an email to confirm when the summaries have been issued.

We have set up as a way of communicating with Inn owners, and a way to communicate with owners of your suite exclusively.

February 2, 2018 - Elizabeth Von Trapp the granddaughter of the Von Trapp family of Sound of Music fame will be preforming at the chapel with the Friends of Music at 7:30pm. She will be staying with us in the Royal Palm Suite. The Friends of Music will reference the Inn’s contribution in the concert program.
